Help me decide. I have a BFGTech 7800GT I'm happy with. I might not get the overclocked versions, but I will be getting one of these two brands 8800GTXes next week so I'm looking for any and all thoughts.

Thanks in advance.

I've had a BFG 6800GT and a EVGA 7800GT and have been happy with both.

I'd recommend avoiding the pre-overclocked cards. I recommended a 7900GT that was OC'd. It turned out to have issues and needed to be replaced.

I got my mom an OC'ed BFG card last year and it has been great. I got the BFG because of their CS and I knew if she had issues it would be easier. However my 6800GT and my new 8800 GTS are both EVGA. I like the trade up program and the GT has been rock solid running 24x7 for almost 2 years now and I just moved it to my wife's machine.

I don't think you can go wrong with either... lol, Winnow and I are a big help on this one uh?

I still appreciate the thoughts, Marb. It's not like it's an ATI/Nvidia question. I don't think there's much difference either way, but I figured I'd ask since it's a $500+ expense and if anyone has anything compelling it's worth it to ask the question.

Don't get me wrong, They're great cards both but is a DX10 compliant card really necessary between now and when Crysis comes out?

There's also the issue of nVidia having to put out seperate drivers for the 8800 than the rest of their product line. Vista has no 8800 driver yet either so if you do a fair amount of PC gaming, for the short term, upgrading to Vista won't be an option(If you even wated to do this in the first place).

I've never owned an EVGA but the BFG card was good. XFX also makes good nVidia based cards as well.

Hey Noel, if you give me a set of parameters, I'll ask Zaul this afternoon and get you an answer. He can pretty much tell you what's what with the most bang for your buck.

I bought 3 eVga cards back in the day when 4600 (I think it was?) was the hottest shit out there. 2 of these cards died within 6 months, the 3rd lasted forever. Of course that doesn't say much about current quality heh.

Never had an issue with BFG.

Forceware 100.30 8800 Vista drivers were "leaked" a couple days ago:

They're beta drivers but at least they're getting close to release.

Vae, thanks.

Mostly just looking at either the EVGA or BFGTech (leaning toward this brand) 8800GTX. Both manufacturers sell a pre-overclocked model which I'm interested in, but Winnow's comments have given me pause, especially given the already ridiculously high horsepower this card is putting out.

Animalor, thanks for the comments, but I'm not too worried about the drivers or direct X 10, especially given that I have a 7800GT I can throw back in if necessary.

Zaul has the EVGA and hasn't had any issues with it. But that's all I can say.

Remember with EVGA you do have the stepup program for 90 days after purchase. That means if they realease an upgrade card you want within that time you can just pay the difference and upgrade... not that I think there will be new card in 90 days but you never know...

You have one of those you can throw my way as well? My 6800GT died and I'm running a ti4200 until things are a bit looser financially =)

Yeah it does.

Animalor, I'd love to hook you up, but I only have one, and it's likely going to go to my brother sometime after I upgrade.

No worries. Wasn't being serious to begin with =) Let us know how the 8800 runs once you pick it up.

Really happy with the performance I'm getting out of it and I didn't have to take out a 2nd mortgage on my house to buy it.

It'll also hold me over till I decide and can afford to build a new system and get PCI-E.
