EverQuest Expansion #13 Announced : The Buried Sea

Post by Aslanna »

Throngs of undead trample the earth both night and day as Norrath's sun withers. With each passing hour, the growing numbers of creatures of the night rising from crypt and grave seem part of a grand design to overwhelm the lands. Trouble also lurks deep beneath the Buried Sea off the coast of Odus in a city named Katta Castrum which has remained undiscovered for millennia. It is a city built to sustain the beloved leader of the Combine Empire named Tsaph Katta who was poisoned by General Seru. Generations of Combine Loyalists have tried to cure and awaken Katta while they house threatened populations of Kedge, Shissar, and Sphinx. But in recent times, the artifact that powers and protects their city has weakened. Without it, the city will be crushed under the pressure of the sea. Only the most intrepid Norrathians have the power to save them.

Features

-Ship-to-Ship Combat – Cross the plank and fight for your life on the open seas as you raid pirate vessels!

-Two Paths of Advancement – Battle pirates on the open seas or dive deep beneath the sea to Katta Castrum, lost stronghold of the Combine Empire.

-New Missions – Take your group through more than 60 challenging new missions ranging from defending merchant vessels against marauding pirates to uncovering the secrets behind the combine city and the danger that threatens it!

-Guild Banners – Design a guild emblem and display it with pride! Upgrade your banner to grant your guild special abilities and plant it on the field of battle so your fellow guild members can teleport directly to it!

-Fellowships – Get together with a group of your closest friends and start your own fellowship! Join in a common chat channel, gain the ability to create a campfire that can help you in your adventures, and get a token that will let you quickly travel to your other fellowship members.
Not really new news... But based on the press release I give it a 'meh'. Nothing really looks exciting there to me for $30. I sure hope the 'under the sea' zones aren't underwater but instead more like Vekis. God I had water zones!

Now that I reread it "...while they house populations of Kedge.." is interesting. It was believed that Phinigel Autropos was the last surviving Kedge. They could ditch the Shisshar though.

Also they really need to tie up the Firiona Vie and Lanys Tvyl storyline and do something with the FV zone. It's been a couple expansions now.. .Seems like they just kinda forgot about it.

I swear we killed Phinigel a bazillion times but he kept coming back. Maybe all the Kedge population is like him.

BTW, one the most eerie visions I recall from the original EQ was watching somone vanish into the black depths, heading off to pull Phin. Creepy!

Well, do any players remember FV any more? I mean, you use it ONLY if you need to do a quest there, or because the book to get to quickest to IllOmen are there :)

Two things I remember about FV.. it becoming the 'new north freeport' when Kunark was released and then it being involved in the absolute best scripted event SOE has ever accomplished. That and the players of Veeshan holding back the evil army that was supposed to take it over.

It's like NFP was.. not something you use daily, but something to go back to when you're feeling nostalgic.

I'm not even talking about FV specifically. I mean the whole storyline that actually changed it to what it is now. It seems like they abandoned it.

It looks to me like a pretty weak expansion. TSS wasn't even remotely finished and people haven't really been getting that far into it. It's buggy as fuck and the progression is completely out of whack after level 60. You're supposed to be able to level from 1-75 without leaving TSS, but anything after level 65 hits you so fucking hard that it isn't even funny. There's level 60 tanks that levelled up inTSS doing all the armor quests with armor that is roughly equal to velious TOV armor, trying to tank mobs that are basically equal to trakanon with 4x the hit points just to get some XP.

In order to get the quest pieces for the level 70 armor quests you need to have gear that is literally about 6 tiers better just to tank the mobs that drop the quest items.

The top tier guilds have only been in farm mode since like mid-late December. Not like there's anything to farm. The only thing I ever see drop is earrings. Fucking thousands upon thousands of earrings.

I understand that EQ is basically just a revenue generator for Sony while they continue to fleece off of people who don't want to give it up, but they could at least try a little bit harder. It's totally embarrasing to just keep releasing content you have to pay for while they never fucking fix stuff that is clearly broken.
