I'm sure there are back doors.

All you little countries need to make your own OSs and stop using ours! In that respect, it's a great spy tool...better than those Canadian coins!

I'm sure the Apple OS has back doors as well.

It's a no win situation as even if a terrorist plot was avoided by using a back door, they couldn't announce it or the people that would have been dead would bitch, "I'd rather be dead than hacked!".

Most of our lives are boring in terms of the grand scheme of things. There are very few things that the government would care about...child abuse, terrorist plots, serial killers. They aren't going to care if you're cheating on your spouse or if you have 10 TB of non pedo porn. I'm sure there are packet sniffers monitoring at least a part of the internet's pipelines.

I'd recommend you stop using words like "kilo, plutonium, and liberal" in your phone conversations or text. (unless liberal is followed immediately by "pussy" in which case it's filtered out.)

Here's a tip: Assume you're being hacked on a government level at all times and you'll be fine.

A real problem would be if Vista could be hacked on a company level in which trade secrets were stolen. I hacked Py's computer the other day and got all of his WoW raid strategies.

I pretty much assume everything I do online [has the potential to be and probably is] monitored. As such, I hope that my action online aren't annoying enough to anyone to warrant further investigation. Lets face it, there isn't a person out there who connects to the Internet anonymously. We're all logging in and connecting through someone else's network, and who knows what kind of records they're keeping and how long they'll protect our personal information in the face of an FBI (or whatever) investigation. With the bullshit administration we have now, no one's privacy is really safe anyway, especially if you're a Muslim.

The invasion of privacy is wrong, but there's really nothing that can be done about it aside from running a different OS like Linux or BSD. There are also a myriad of firewalling options available to whomever is trying to protect themselves from unwanted intrusion.

Oh I am pretty sure everything I say and do is monitored. As a non-American with 6 visas and fairly big money transactions from foreign countries into my account I expect that they know what I had for breakfast this morning and when it came back out!

Hmmm, that brings up another possibility. Since you can buy, sell and trade Lindens (Second Life currency) in Second Life using U.S. currency, that might be a good way to pay off people across distances undetected.
