So, against my better judgment, I am thinking of picking up EQ…. again. What all has changed in the past year and a half? I got my cleric up to level 70 after I brought her out of retirement for the third time. Anywho, is there any point of playing the game again?

Depends on why you quit in the first place. The core game is pretty much the same but there have been a lot of changes. Best thing to do is look through the patch messages if you can find them archived anywhere.

Oasis was merged into North Ro / South Ro. Or maybe just one of the Ros. Can't remember at the moment. NFP got lost in the Freeport revamp.

The redone zones look very nice, but mostly out of place with the old zones.

Also I think highpass was redone as well as part of the newest expansion.

Highpass was redone. Ocean of Tears is next up on the list from what I gather. So if anyone feels they'll be missing the old one go get your screenshots now!

The change to Neriak (all what, 3 of them?) were ok I guess. Only time I really spent there was when Missions were worth doing.

But I'll never forgive SOE for what they did to Freeport. That was the one zone I could always go to the bank in and remember when EQ was new and exciting. Granted, it was depressing, but it was a good trip down memory lane.

Why the fuck don't they redo Firiona Vie and make it somewhat useful again instead of an absolute 100% waste of space.

Wouldn't one of the goals be to redo unpopular zones to make them worth visiting? Are they not revamping quests, mobs, etc in the redone zones?

There's two different kinds of 'revamps'. There's the revamp like Mistmoore (which has since been undone) / Droga where they just stick different mobs but leave everything else. Then there's the complete redo where it's redone from the ground up with new graphics and npc/mobs such as Lavastorm and Freeport. I get lost in the new FP but overall I don't care that much. How often do I have a need to go there? Not very. It was practically deserted most of the time anyway. It was the center of a new expansion it only made sense to be redone. Not everyone was pleased by it but hey.. It's a dynamic world.

I think the general idea is to do a complete redo of all the original zones so it makes sense OoT would be done at some point. Don't quote me on this but I think too that a redo of OoT needed to happen to make the boats work. Thought I remember reading that but I could be making it up.

As far a FV goes.. It's not totally useless. The vendors and such are still there they're just relocated in the doggy outpost. The main city itself is pretty lame though and a waste of space. They should at least add some evil vendors or something. Why take a city if you're not going to do anything with it.

Fuck I should never have randomly came here to read about EQ and Nilaman never should have IMed me...haven't played EQ in years but can't get the freakin game out of my head now. Without a doubt EQ's the best game I've ever played, if it wasn't for the fact that I'd have to grind out levels and AAs for 6 months just to get to the point where I could raid with friends and have fun I'd re-subscribe right now. Ahhhhh

To me, FV is the outpost. FV isn't the surrounding areas. Yeah, it's one zone, but FV only includes the outpost imo. That's what I mean when I say FV is useless.

Most of the full-blown revamps seem to be driven by the more recent expansions. Lavastorm because it was the spot where DoN connected to the existing world, Nektulos because it's where DoD connects, Freeport is where PoR connects, High Pass for TSS. The Ro's got combined & revamped because of their involvement with some PoR content or lore (dunno, haven't messed around w/ PoR much), and the Commonlands got fixed because it was the one untouched piece of "land" in the middle of all of these revamped areas. No idea if OOT is involved in any way with the upcoming expansion, but I also think they did that zone to fix the boats, or at least something about that was posted on the official Sony EQ boards (who know that the missing boats were such a big deal to so many people?).

I haven't really been playing much lately, but in principle, I like the idea of refreshing the older content. Frankly, most of the old world, Kunark, Velious and Luclin could stand a little updating and consolidation even though some sentimental favorites would surely be lost in the modernization.
