Cat Power, Air and the Kinks are all amazing, thanks for sharing guys
Everyone of those songs you linked are amazing!
I'm gonna drop a newer song on your head now...some incubus from their new album, quite a tempo change but a nice song all the same

Kinks are one of the greatest bands ever. Way under appreciated for their lyrics as well.
Nice idea Nick.
A fun one:

And here's one for those that appreciate masters of their craft. This is one of a very few bands I would go see in person. Fucking awesome:

Recognize the people that walk on the stage at the very end of the video?
Ack, not to add too many but Nick's Regina Spektor video reminded me of the post about her awhile back and I mentioned that her quick change in vocal level reminded me of the Missing Person's singer Dale Bozzia in the song "Words". Classic 80's.
Here it is:

Not great quality but worth a look just to see Dale's best stage outfit ever. Legs legs and more legs.

I really wanted to post up about 20 elvis costello vids and live performances...but I stumbled across this one, which made me laugh because I knew the story but never saw it originally (I would have been a wee lad).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOuknbvu ... ed&search=
Costello on SNL and the (in)famous false start that earned him the anger of Lorne Michaels. Basically, he was supposed to play the other song and didn't want to, so he didn't!
This joke was revisited when the Beastie Boys were on promoting the Hello Nasty album. Costello bum rushed the stage during the second performance, and the Beasties backed him up on a song. (i tried really hard to find that clip, but I haven't had any luck)
There's some really great stuff in this thread.

What can YOU do with a guitar?

Also, once you've finished that, how about plugging it in?!

That song from Air reminded me of this gem form them as well:

And at the risk of making an ass out of myself, I really love the way Jack White plays the blues on this Son House cover:

I don't know why, but I just don't "feel" it when he's playing it.Hoarmurath wrote:And at the risk of making an ass out of myself, I really love the way Jack White plays the blues on this Son House cover:

This has so much more in it IMHO:

No need to feel like you're making an ass of yourself. Jack White is doing exactly what musicians of generations past have done. Take the blues, and apply new technologies and sounds to it.Boogahz wrote:I don't know why, but I just don't "feel" it when he's playing it.Hoarmurath wrote:And at the risk of making an ass out of myself, I really love the way Jack White plays the blues on this Son House cover:

It's no different than what the bands of the british invasion were doing. The Yardbirds, Bluesbreakers, Zeppelin, and even the early Stones just wanted to play american blues. But they all changed it just a little, playing it through electric instruments, with new amplifiers and effects, this put a new twist on the timeless blues.
He's doing the same, and he's reached a whole new audience.
Now, to hammer the point home. American blues, played by a british band. (warning, clip is LOUD)
