Battletech

Don't you wish there was a Battletech style EQ. I was thinking about this the other day. Guilds would become Mercenary Companies and Groups would become Lances. You survive on salvage as your loots. Take down an elite pilot and salvage his superior mech and make it your own. You have a stable where you keep your mechs. You can have massive skills in mechanics and things like that. Too many ideas and not enough time to type them.

They'd nerf the PPC tho.

Not all of us have played that though - so for some of us, we don't know what the heck you are talking about.

Daishi Widowmaker plz. I was wondering why they didn't have a battletech-eq'ish game the other day.

Diashis own.
Vulture / Mad Dog = the shit of quick mechs, if you didn't go nova / puma (mainly because you want somthing that can hit shit at range)

Battletech is about war in the future using walking tanks of various size and design. That is about as simple as I can put it. These tanks are called Mechs and they hold an arsenal of weapons ranging from lasers to missles to canons.
There is a lot of history that goes with the game that describe factions and governments and such. When you get right down to it though, it is about blowing shit up and killing the enemy (which could be your friends if you are playing online or linked). Mechwarrior is the computer version of the table top game. You can play online now but it isn't anything like an EQ structure. It is more along the lines of an online FPS atm.
A very cool game with a very cool concept. Well worth your time to check out.

Actually I didn't like Mech warrior. I can't remember which version I played, but I made it through the first 3 or 4 missions and then just couldn't get the right mech to make it through the next one.
Never had enough armor, or I was too slow or not enough fire power or etc etc.

I am a scripter. I am a cheater. I am a hacker. I am using god mode. I am using a kick script. I am using a backstab script. I am using a damage modifier. I am a low ping bastard (lpb). --Searyx
You can't be called that in Mechwarrior.
Dalur, Mechwarrior has come a long way from the polygon graphics and the infocom games (Hit Tab! Fires all weapons at once.). The game has really risen to a high level quality in both graphics and game play.
/raise Bring on Merc. I downloaded the trailer for it. Now I am chubbin.

Actually, I'd much rather see Microsoft get some use out of its FASA software licenses it bought and instead of using Battletech..use Shadowrun and give us a kick ass MMORPG.. Damn that would kick ass, but they'd find someway to screw it up I am sure..

Actually Eletronic Arts had produced an on-line version of Battletech that was due to be released about a year ago. I spent some time in the beta but unfortunately EA had to cut back for financial reasons and cancelled it late in it's development cycle.
The game they released was not equal to MW4 in terms of graphics or game play and was rather simplified. Unfortunately it does not look like an MPBT universe will be coming any time soon even though it was one of the original on-line games back when Kesmai was around. MPBT 3025 EGA was the name I believe, played on GEnie and something you had to pay $3.25 an hour to play.
Speaking of pipe dreams, anyone know how much money Verant has pissed away developing Soveriegn?

ShadowRun would be uber, but last I checked FASA owned the MW title too.

Few years back Microsoft bought out the FASA software licensing... So far as I know, including MW:)

Seriously Searyx, STFU. If you have nothing to add to a thread except to boast your uber hacker-esque Jedi skillz, then just bump your old thread and leave this discussion alone.

Back in the board version of battletech I was all about Locust gunships. Watch your terrain and know your targets and the locusts were king!
For the comp versions I tend to go ER large laser platforms.

I always liked the board version more then the computer games. one of my friend could completely destroy any of us with a locust, unless we got lucky.
wish I could play it again, but I haven't gotten together with the people I use to play with for about 4 years or more.

Nods, a locust gunship (3 medium lasers) running around at 10+ using the terrain is virtually impossible for a non-veteran or better gunner to hit. Great toys.

Of course elite gunners kill them, but if you arent elite you got problems...

Ok, so I get online last night for some battletech action. I can't believe how fast these people can drop an assault mech. It seems like I only take 2 hits before I am laid to waste. Very disappointing. I'll have to practice a lot more.

Mechwarrior is simply awsome with the right controller. Withought the right controller, it's an exercise in frustration.

I never had the chance to enjoy the table top version.. however..
Give me 5 minutes or soand I will completely rewire the default mechs.. I like to have between 3 - 5 Medium Pulse Lasers, 20 pack LRM, PPC (iffy) and maybe a Large Pulse.
The lasers don't have the greatest range, but damned if they don't put out OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS of hurt.

That is my problem too I think. I am either an "In your face with a fist full of lasers and canons" or the "Sit back and snipe from afar" kind of player. I don't like the in between because of the lack of punch. I just can't get over how fast people(me) get zorched by just a few shots.

Btw.
Never EVER underestimate the power of a SPL or a pair of machine guns. CASE is also your friend. While you're running hot from dumping a ton of MPL or ERL blasts, that SPL can continue to weaken an enemy - even kill - if yer doing well.

Back in the P&P days, I was a "Crusader w/ jump jets" kinda guy. The versatility of that set-up was hard to beat in a non-Arena game. When we'd run seige scenarios, I'd often walk out with 4-5 confirmed kills.
MW3 I was a Daishi loaded up with Gauss cannons and jump jets, usually with several med. pulse lasers for backup. I remember doing 4-on-4 battles and hearing the first victim of a quad-gauss exclaim "What the FUCK just hit me? The whole world turned green, then I blew up!" Granted, I was meat if any of the little mechs got close, but if I got any support from my lancemates, we could do some damage.
