Pretty good video, hypothetically.

VSoH is really comming along nicely...i'm enjoying beta

the beta server seems to never have less than 700+ people on all of the time.

GM's have a strong presence; i see them on every day chatting with players in world chat. They hold testing events as well that are pretty cool.

If anyone gets into beta and would like to roll with some people from EQ/Veeshan you can look us up at http://www.pdguild.org

couple of downsides: 1) its still beta, you have bugs, crashes, etc etc. 2) server stability; though this has greatly improved 3) performance; you need a monster machine to run this at highest detail levels...i run at medium settings at 1920x1200 resolution and it looks great. though performance at time chugs, they have made vast improvements in this area since previous beta phases and every patch(weekly) they are making more noticeable improvements.

I got in, and admittedly haven't played much at all, but I found the graphics extremely disappointing. It felt like I was playing EQ2.

I know that excellent graphics does not a good game make, but I would have thought they'd be a little bit better.

When I manage to free up 20 gigs of space to install it I'll give it a try.

I hear they're making 40gb hard drives now!

Those screenshots look like they're straight out of EQ2.

I'm sure it will be fun at least for a little while for those looking for new content in an EQ type setting.

I think it's more of an Everquest 1.5

It is acutally more like Everquest 0.7.

It seemed like DAoC to me. After the crisp and allbeit cartoonish graphics of WoW and CoH / CoV, I don't care for the "real feel" graphics anymore.

Well, if the gameplay is smooth and the animations are fast, flawless and very smooth, one could settle for a bit lesser graphics.

Did they have any martial artists in Vanguard?

Possible to do kick-combos?

there was an article out on Ten Ton Hammer about there being Monks that have 3 different types of styles to choose from. Very much the martial artists.

Also the Disciple is a healing martial artist type.

Har. I have an 80gb drive, thanks. You'd be surprised how many things out there rate HIGHER than having Vanguard on it.

My machine chugs ever since I upgraded to the Dell 2407, even on very low graphics settings. It used to be fine on medium settings at 1024x768, but I'll be damned if I'm hooking my old ass 19" CRT up to beta a game.

Why not just use the 1:1 fixed pixel setting on your 1207 and lower the res? It will be a smaller window but should look good and not stretched.

I tried that for the PS2 and FFXII but 480 lines is so tiny on the 2405, you could fit nine full res PS2 screens on it. I do it all the time though for game that use 1600X1200 or 1280X1024.

I have no idea how to do what you're talking about.

Click the middle of the five settings buttons on the front of your 2407 (if it's the same as 2405)

Click the "-" button twice

Click the middle button again (selecting the "Image Settings" menu option)

Click the "-" button again until you get down to "Scaling"

Options: 1:1, Fill, Aspect

Choose 1:1

There was a bug with the 2405's where you had to not be in 1920X1200 in order to change the setting initially...so if that's still the case, you need to change resolutions in order to select the 1:1 option the first time. Hopefully they fixed that with the 2407.

Ahh, so I end up with the black bars on either side of the screen and the 4:3 resolution in the middle?

You end up with the exact pixel count of the resolution you're using with black bars on all sides as filler. That way the picture looks as good as it can without any stretching/interpolation necessary.

The faces look much better (more realistic) than anything EQ and EQ2 managed to produce! :)

Compare these faces with the good ol Erudites from EQ! Lolz

oh my god, those models are terrible.

They look like someone made some really cool models, and then someone else came along and played the whole "Look, I'm squishing your head" game with them.

Head size is customizable if i remember correctly.. want a long head, make it.. want a squished head, so be it.

Is 'terrible looking model' an option as well?

Posted: December 19, 2006, 2:13 am

Because the models in EQ, EQ2, DAoC, WoW, etc are so much better..

lol @ those character models

If that's the newbie spot where you pop into the world for the first time, I think my journey would end right there.

There's going to be a lot of bald people in this game because that hair just stole the "worst play-doh hair award" from EQ2.

Seriously, look at that picture. 100+ rivets on a piece of armor does not make it any more next gen.

You've slain The Goblin Lord: Loot: 100 Rivet Breast Plate, 250 Rivet leggings

You'd think that fellow in the yellow armor on the left might have some special armor with it being so colorful and all but count the rivets...no more than 10 or so... Newb! I wouldn't want to mess with those two characters on the right though that look like they wouldn't even make the cut in an EA Sports title.

the newest game you just compared those models to is 2 years old some are 7 and 8 years old.

and I would consider those models to be artistically and technically a step backwards from just about anything taking into consideration their age,

here's some screenshots I took of a MMORPG released in April 2005 which will be almost two years before Vanguard gets off the ground.

Strictly speaking visual eye candy, there's no comparison. I don't care how many shaders Vanguard uses if they aren't used well.

I don't know...the hair looks like...hair? The armor...varied? The scenery...spectacular compared to Vanguard.

Two years ago...and the stiff clay models posted above are all Sigil could come up with...and look how empty that background is compared to the images I just posted.

Games need to move forward not backward.

I could have posted images from CoH/CoV or Lineage 2 among others.

As for gameplay, who knows but it doesn't sound like it will make you forget what you're looking at compared other games that the designers had an opportunity to look at while creating this.
