Review of the Honda Fit/Jazz

While I was in Norway I helped my mother buy a new car, and after looking at quite a few (Opel Astra and Mitsubishi Colt being the two most interesting ones) she ended up getting Honda Jazz (Fit in the US). I got to drive it quite a bit over the summer so figured I'd post up some thoughts.
Positives:
- Small car but does not give you the "small car feeling" while driving.
- Very practical, love all the seat arrangements in it.
- Easy to drive and reasonably comfortable even for me at 6'1.
- Plenty of back seat space even behind me when I adjust the front seat to my long legs. I test sat the back seat behind my adjusted front seat and I was comfortable.
- Decent gas mileage.
-Good trunk size for such a small car.
- Everything is within easy reach of the driver and where it is logical to find it.
- More "sporty" feel to suspension and steering than most other small cars.
Negatives:
- A pillar design is horrible and blocks the view big time. Way too thick, and especially for somebody like me who push the seat back it seriously is borderline dangerous.
- The view out the rear window is not the best.
- Too small engine but I am sure there is a bigger one available.
- I was not a fan of the transmission but my mother likes it. More sporty than her last car but it takes too long to change imo. Of course I am used to more sporty cars than this.
Conclusion: A LOT of car for the money but it definitely has some flaws. My mother is quite happy with it but I am less certain if I would get one as a daily driver. The A pillar is my largest complaint and I actually sat there and was annoyed by it while driving.

I kinda liked them when I first saw them but now I think they look like ass. There's so many better looking subcompacts around.

Just like the civic 2 years ago, it is time for a fresh face. Accord and Pilot next year and the Fit (including a hybrid) around March 08. Also hybrid only model march of 07. Possibly a wagon as well, we will see what the special announcement is this coming week.

Yeah, the redesign of the new civic was a grand slam. A very very nice looking car.
I even like the styling
massage they gave the Element.

Yah that is a MMC (mid model change) as opposed to a FMC(full model change)... as much as the fit needs it they are still sold out 3 months in advance... the car in the line that needs it desperately is the accord imo followed by the pilot, both of which get reworked next year. Also the s2000 is a goner (to be reborn as the new RSX in the acura line?) with either a CRX or Prelude rebirth by mid 09. Rumors have both cars being made in the future with the CRX being a Euro only car (like the latitude/stream is now[though that is the wagon we pray for here in North America]) and the prelude being designed to outrun the WRX and give the Evo a run for it's money. 4 cyl, 285 hp, AWD and certainly not a naturally apirated car. I will say though if those are the specs, the Evo will still leave it and the WRX in the dust, the new Evo X is a beast compared to the IX and nothing touches the IX.

Evo X is ugly as hell though! And I hope the remodeling of the Fit fixes the A pillar issue. Seriously, the car would be a great daily driver but that thing scares me. I lost a bicyclist in the A pillar once heh. Interesting news about the Prelude as well.
Question (if you know): Does the European Accord have some of the Acura designs in it? Especially the front end?

Euro styling > US styling on every damn car, better lights, better grills better lines... it pisses me off tbh but hey if I hear another devoted american Honda-ite tell me the new CR-V is uglyy and what a pretty machine their old one one is (when it is in fact a peice of crap and was the worst car in the line) I am gonna puke.
As far as the Evo X goes I like it, wider and more aggressive front end, smother motion design that eliminates some of the funk chop look the freakin Rudder it needs for a wing to keep it on the road. The improved AWD system is the benchmark now for handling and soooooo much power. We drove a IX with the new handling and then a current IX, it's really something. I actually like the look more then the current.
IX

X
Ohhh and that black part in the front is going to be body colored or so they say

I don't like the current look either to be honest but I hate those huge ass grills every car has these days. The X is just a perfect example of it. Oh and I really liked the European Accord, but I like the US Civic better.

I agree on grill size but this is actually a case where the car almost needs it. I am also looking forward to the new OZ Rally with the Evo XIII motor (tweaked slightly) for under 27k... Mitsu has finally got their feet under them again, thank god (I sell them as well

)
