In some ways this day has been coming for a while but its still a shock to me. I have a tough time picturing the Flyers minus Bobby Clarke. His no-toothed smile as he hoisted the Cup epitomizes the Flyers to me. But given the realities of the new NHL, and the inability the Flyers under Clarke have shown to adapt to the fact the game is about speed again, not about putting out a bunch of giant octapi to grab anyone close by, its something that was needed.
I have a hard time with Hitchcock taking a fall beside Clarke, as a coach all he can do is try and win with the players (in this case the big and slow ones) the GM gives him. Oh well, he still gets paid for another 3 years.
