I have fallen behind in keeping up with tech, so am looking for recommendations.

What I want to use: AMD X2 MB with 2 full PCI-16 slots... not 2 that are PCI-8 when both 16 slots are in use.

I prefer Asus or ABit, so either is acceptable. There are so many out there that I don't really know what to go with, so am looking for recommendations from people who may have the above.

Prefer the MB to stay between $100-$150ish range.

Can you link some benchmarks that show a difference between SLI PCI-2X8 & 2X16? As far as I could tell, it's less than one percent if anything.

Perhaps things have changed.

I perfer Gigabyte myself. Think this will work for you.

I guess you missed the first line of my post, but the reason: Might be that way now, but will it remain that way.

I try to build for future expandability when I make a new system.

The specs look good on them, but holy hell... DDR2 memory is expensive.

If you mean you are looking for boards for a AM2, then Asus has 2 boards the meet what you want, Crosshair and M2N32-SLI. Both are higher than what you want to spend though.

If you are looking for a board for a AMD 64 X2 then I would recommend a A8N32-SLI Deluxe, which is in your price range and uses cheaper DDR memory

I had a Gigabyte board a few years back (PCI-e 16x, four dimms, nforce 4 i think), and it was horrible for overclocking and had no nifty features. It wasn't terrible (most mobos aren't terrible), but it wasn't impressive. One thing to note is that it did not have CMOS jumpers, so I had to use a fucking screwdriver to reset it. Pain in the ass. Also had a terrible instruction manual and no foldout picture with all parts labelled. So yeah, I guess it was a bad mobo.

Then I got an Abit (which I still have) AX8 and it's done well. What you need to do with Abit is review their manufacturer forums about RAM compatibility. Don't ignore that issue. They've had problems with many brands (Patriot and Kingston off the top of my head) in the past with several of their boards, so it's worth looking into.

Asus is expensive. Asus is also delicious.

I RECCAMEND going with an Asus if your wallet can handle it, and an Abit if you know what you're doing with RAM and cooling.
