Only Bostonians are retarded enough to

1) Put a pokemon movie on a big screen TV
2) Tape it
3) Yell about it on camera
4) Put it on the internet.

Gotcha!

But what is the distinct difference between Jersey and Boston-accent?

I was almost 100 % this was Jersey-talk!

From a non-scientific standpoint, New Jersians smell like garbage, Bostonians smell like crap, although that doesn't say much about the accent.

edit: I guess I should mention that I'm a New Yorker through and through.

Jersey accents are whiney and make excessive use of the 'oi' sound, thus 'New Joisey.'

yah, a lot of people up here in Jersey call it Joisey...

I recently picked up a bit of the Jersey slang myself, but i still prefer to talk like a Delawarian. Its so funny to see how big a difference Jersey is from Delaware.. I prefer DE myself, no taxes, cigarettes are like 3-4 bucks, and straight roads.. Jersey is a bitch besides the gas is like 2.65 right now.

I don't know that I could tell you what the difference is between the Boston and Jersey accents, except to say that the Boston accent is a lot stronger and more sing-songy (and the song is fucking ug-ly), while the Jersey accent is a bastardization of the NY Italian accent, but milder. They both butcher the English language and they don't even do it with style like the Scots or the Irish... or the cockneys for that matter.

edit:

quoting someone who's much better with words than I am - while he was mocking a Bostonian:

"you don't like FEEEEEEHNWEEEEEEEEH PAAAAAAAAAHK?"

"there's a CAAAAAAAAAAAH in the PAAAAAAAAAAAHking LAAAAAAAHt"

The NY italian accent is dreadful!

just for the record, the "jersey" accent is, basically, a folk tale stemming from some comedy bit I imagine. If you come and visit this state, and you hear someone w/ an accent, chances are it's purely ethnic in nature.

Now, there are plenty of Jerseyans who speak with no accent at all, but to pretend that it doesn't exist is patently ludicrous.

Every now and then I'll run into someone who's clearly from New Jersey down here in DC. You can tell by the accent. I always calmly ask what exit they're from, and they flip out and ask how I know they're from Jersey. Comedy gold.

So is this accent/dialect ethnic or not?

Where does it come from?
