Since the early 90s or somesuch, the microbrewery has become all the rage here in the states. We were always known for mass-produced rice beer, and still are for the most part.

However, the art and craft of brewing has really become a tradition in many areas--namely California and Oregon. Brewfests and Oktoberfest-homages are annual events and really draw the crowds. Even culturally devoid states seem to embrace and add to the wonderful beverage known as beer.

I had never heard of Rogue Ales until I took the mail boat up the Rogue river when I went up to Bandon for an ex's family reunion. It's some pretty good stuff, and we can get the Dead Guy Ale in several places here.

The best of all beers is Black Butte Porter by Deschutes Brewery.

Good stuff! My parents live along the Deschutes....beautiful river! The brewpub in downtown Bend is nice as well. That porter is fantastic with fish n' chips. The major microbrews in OR (Widmer, Rogue, Bridgeport, Full Sail, Deschutes) cover the bases pretty damn well for good beer.

Rogue is great, and they have a brewery here local to me (Issaquah), where you can have a Kobe Beef Burger to go with your Dead Guy Ale!.

Dead Guy is the name of my Chili Recipe, which uses dead guy ale!

I love Guinness and Bass. (At the same time, even.)

If those were the only two beers in the world I would be perfectly happy. However, I do enjoy trying new microbrews when I see them.

I tolerate about anything except those damn fruity belgian beverages...miserable fat belgian bastards...

It's beer. Hurray beer!

Anything that Ayinger makes is great. It's relatively uncommon, but luckily a small market 5 mins from my house sells some. If you have any places that you think may have a wider selection of beer than normal, look for it there. There's a few kinds of theirs that I've yet to try, but these three are beyond uber.

mmm, now I want a Shiner. Too bad I am baby sitting my nephew tonight, or I would grab some more on the way home.

Denver and the Front Range has a nice selection of beers. We also host the Great American Beer Fest every year, which I hope to attend this year. Among my favorite local beers, New Belgium has a great assortment of beers (Fat Tire, Abbey, 1554, Skinny Dip, etc). They have an amazing waste water recovery system and treat their employees very well too. The beer is delicious too. We normally keep the fridge stock with Fat Tire, but I've been drinking the skinny dip this summer, which tastes like the Loft seasonal they brewed recently. It's low carb, but still good. Odells is another Ft. Collins brewery that is very good. Breckenridge Brewery makes a few decent beers, and I go to the restaurant near Coors Field sometimes, but not usually. As for other beers, I really like anything really hoppy, with lots of body and some bitterness. Mirror Pond is another favorite, which is made by Deschutes.
