Well I live in the US, for all you over seas people. Well just to get straight to the point, for some reason I tend to enjoy music from out of country. Canada (thousand foot krutch) Britain ( Franz Ferdinand, Arctic Monkeys) Australian (Wolfmother). Im just looking for a bunch of catchy bands that are out of country. I want to be able to understand them too (english haha)

Thanks in advance

Scandinavia has consistently cranked out quality rock bands and some wicked metal acts for a while now.

VIKINGS KNOW HOW TO ROCK

Quite a few of the bands you would put in the same genre as Wolfmother (though I'm not hip enough to know the label they've put on the reinvented genre) are international.

Only fruity scenesters enjoy listening to Franz Ferdinand and the Arctic Monkeys so save yourself the bother from now and listen to something legit from the UK and Ireland like:

Radiohead
Muse
Bloc Party
Prodigy
Snow Patrol

They are fairly modern bands from the Uk but unlike Franz Ferdinand and co they actually have a sound worth listening to.

Let me take this opportunity to plug my friends band:

Fast Gallows - furious rock'n'roll. They're on the rise, and are actually pretty damn fucking good. Check out the myspace thingie, there're some good audio samples of what they're about - http://www.myspace.com/fastgallows .

Its not just a UK thing in my opinon, just it is different from the american pop that I dont listen to. I like rock, metal, punk, punk rock, and ska, but when I try to listen to the pop channel with my family it just makes me want to smash my face into a spiked wall. But Bloc Party, Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand, Keane... just makes it better because my family can listen to it and I dont need to take any suicidal feats.

I had adventured to a liking to the music though.. thanks for some of the bands so far, I like Snow Patrol and Sigur Ros OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS already.

Hey I like this! Tasty!

For a couple bands in the vein of Wolfmother you have Priestess from Canadia, and The Sword from Austin, Texas.

Before you protest, the music scene in Austin is like another country.

No, Austin is another country. Surrounded and held prisoner by the State of Texas!

other countries put out just as much shit as we do, it just gets slightly less airplay here. for example:
celine dion
the spice girls
and the list goes on.

'britpop' isn't the same as the jessica simpson pop we have over here. bands like radiohead, blur, pulp, travis, oasis, suede, elastica, etc were all considered britpop.

but check out:
the arcade fire (canada)
broken social scene (canada)
the decemberists (oregon, but i swear they're from another planet where literary pirates roam free)

I have to be honest, I just don't have the time to do the legwork to search out and listen to new bands any longer. When I hear something I like, I'll try to follow up on it. Wolfmother is definitely a great listen. it's good to hear plain old rock-rock coming back instead of more alt-rock or rap-rock crap. I will have to take a listen to the other two bands mentioned as well.

I don't think anyone who knows anything about music would question just how good the Austin music scene is.

When I think 'foreign music' I think regional non-English sung music. Otherwise I just assume it's all the same and don't really care which country it comes from as long as it's decent.

Rodrigo Y gabriela for some fantastic mexican styled guitar wizardry. They played here recently and were fantastic. One of the most interesting bands about right now and amazing to listen to.

I have since been educated on the label they've stuck on this new (old) genre. They're calling it Hipster Metal. For a short list of bands that are out right now and in this same group as Wolfmother:

Dungen
Early Man
The Sword
Witch
Priestess

Most of these bands draw heavily on Zep and Sabbath, but hey...I like both of those, so I wouldn't consider that a complaint!

Whatcha think about Fast Gallows? They'll be touring the US in spring/summer '07.

I think you were addressing Mr. Chidoro, but I thought they were pretty kickass. I'll definately go scream at them if they come anywhere near here.

I liked what I heard on the Fast Gallows link as well. My only complaint would be that two of the songs sounded almost exactly the same, but you get that with almost any band now.

Speaking of Broken Social Scene, I happened to catch Jason Collett in concert last year (he was a member of BSS at one point). I had no idea who he was at the time, but he was a pleasant surprise. Definitely check him out.
