In regards to this thread:

Now this might also be b/c I had too much thermal paste. I removed all the old paste with a credit card using latex gloves and put on a very small amount of the past that came with the Zalman.
Temperatures:
OLD=
EQ in guild hall: 123F
Desktop: 111F
NEW= (With Zalman 9500)
EQ in guild hall: 96F
Desktop: 94F
Abosultely incredible heatsink/fan combo.

Nice : )
I've been pimping Zalman fans for several years here.
I'm sure some of that heat loss was due to the thermal paste but glad to hear it helped!
...and what were you doing with a pair of latex gloves lying around???

Well we use them a lot at work b/c of hazardous chemicals....mind you they have NOTHING to do with the fact that I am isolated from my wife AND sex (not keen on the idea of fucking around) for the next year.
They were new ones though.

I'm thinking of getting a new cooling system.
The past few days my temp alarm has been going off on my MB (set at 65C) unless I have my AC going.
Does Thermal paste get old? Thinking of using some Arctic Silver to replace until I replace the cooler I have now.

Well, lapped my CPU heatsink and used Arctic Silver.
Desktop Temp: 47C with closed case.
In EQ : 56C with closed case.
Big improvement.
Guess I can hold off on a new heatsink and fan for now.
Was waiting for some replies before I tried this, but don't need any now
One thing I am a bit concerned about, and can't find any documentation on is these voltages shown in nv System Utility.
AMD 3200+ Barton
nVidia 6600GT
CPU = 1.664 - 1.680 (varies)
NF = 1.616 1.632 1.648 (varies)
AUX = 1.616 1.632 1.648 (varies)
These voltages are at or slightly above the red line shown on the graph.
Wondering if I use the BIOS to reduce the voltages a bit to fall between the yellow and the red would be ok.
Anyone have any ideas?

You shouldn't do any permanent damage by lowering voltages to test this out. If it becomes unstable, just raise them again.
As for thermal paste losing it's effectiveness over time...I haven't experienced that (with Arctic Silver at least)
It does take a day or two for Arctic Silver to fully bond (or whatever the term is). Your temperatures may drop another degree or so over that time.

Ok so I'm having problems again.
No overheating my max temp while 2 boxing in EQ so far has been 107F. Not even close to the yellow really.
So I'm running around boxing my 2 toons and it poofs... I mean it does the same thing as if I had reached down and pushed my "Reset" button.
Screen goes black and BIOS starts up and goes to POST screen then boots back into Windows.
Help please.
Also, I'm on my second M/B and Vid card. Both combos did the same. Only constant so far is memory, CPU, P/S and HDD.

Unrelated, but I have to ask, what do you do that isolates you from your wife for a year and involves latex gloves? Are you a deep sea whale proctologist?!?

Being stationed overseas and not wanting to visit the locals to get off

I had this happen to me before, but I never could figure out why. The only thing that was common all these times was that it was colder than normal in my room. When it was a more normal temperature I never had shutdowns that happened like that.
I don't believe a computer could shut down from being too cold though.

I'm pulling my hair out over this one. I can afford to replace any of the parts but the idea of pissing away money without knowing first bugs me.

Some ideas for you:
Is your video card one that requires a direct connection to the power supply? Make sure that is providing what is needed if so.
Maybe dust is causing some problems somewhere?
Check the RAM to see if you have any that is bad?

As was said, check both the ram and the video card. I would also clean the case for dust and open your power supply and clean it for dust.
Strange issue though.

I'm pretty sure my video card is not the problem since I have used both a Gforce 7800 GS/OC and my newer ATI 1600 both 512mb cards, both new and both were installed when the shutdowns happen.
How do I "check" the ram?
