So I got some flier in my mailbox, exclaiming of major revamps and changes (not something i would advertise as "good".. but the story goes on). So I say to myself... hell why not, its free, with no credit card needed.
So here's my take. I have not played EQ2 in many months, probably even close to a year. Why is basically the whole game mechanics re done to copy WoW?
Before : After
No PVP period : battlegrounds with PVP rewards!... or something like that
No talent trees : talent trees (Crappy ones that are difficult to understand)
Not everything had to be attuned : Everything is attuned when equipped.
Archtype Class System : Start out as a "defined" class
Old tutorial island : Revamped island
Quest NPCs waved you over : Quest NPCs have a clear icon above head
Now that Ive played WoW until lvl 60, and EQ until level 21 maybe, I've seen the light on just how ametureish EQ2 was done. It just seems like a fucking joke, everytime i think i might want to try EQ2 again, i just get reminded on how half assed that game is. Why does even Oblivion look 100x better, yet doesnt chug and lag like EQ2 on my comp?
So my basic rant is about how EQ2 sucks, SoE are money hungry bastards who dont know a damn thing about keeping a player base happy (besides stealing the winner's ideas) and how horrible the game looks all around (they already have "alternate" models, like they did with Luclin in EQ1?.... wow...)

So you're saying EQ2 sucks because they are adding features that players asked for?
No PVP period : battlegrounds with PVP rewards!... or something like that
Did you even play the game?
There are no
battlegrounds.
There are arenas which are basically a throwback to the original everquest.
I imagine they were intended to be a testinground for PvP balancing.
No talent trees : talent trees (Crappy ones that are difficult to understand)
I could see how the achievement skills are hard to understand if you're an illiterate fucking moron. And since you admit to playing only to level 21 (yeah right), you haven't the slightest idea of how useful or useless they are.
Not everything had to be attuned : Everything is attuned when equipped.
They made that change in late 2004. And it's not attuned when equipped. You have to manually attune it.
Archtype Class System : Start out as a "defined" class
How is that a bad thing? The original archetype system was well intentioned but having to wait 20 levels to actually become the class you want kinda sucks if you end up not liking the class. You had to invest too much time into a character before you could get a real feel for the class.
Old tutorial island : Revamped island
Not just the newbie island. The revamped every starting zone in Freeport/Qeynos and added loads of new quests and quest paths. They did a great jov with those. When those went live, the newbie zones were jam packed with players.
Quest NPCs waved you over : Quest NPCs have a clear icon above head
One of the best things they pinched from WoW.
At least the EQ2 devs know a good feature when they see one... not like the WoW devs who are still feeding their players meeting stones, a shitty quest journal and mindless faction/gold farming.

MMORPG != Single Player
These two genres are developed in completely different ways. Of course you're going to get more lag in a game with multiple players running around.
Don't be retarded, EQ2 came out over a year and a half ago.

I just re-activated my account after about 8 months and I've got to say so far I'm enjoying the changes that have been made since I played last.
There are a couple of things I don't care for, like the winding paths the birds take between towers but that is inconsequential.

You can jump off the birds whenever you want...
Just make sure you're fairly close to the ground (or you have safe fall) or you'll crater on impact.

Then we could say
Blizzard are money hungry bastards who dont know a damn thing about keeping a player base happy (besides stealing a competitior's ideas) and how horrible the game looks all around....
But seriously. Blizzard are doing themselves a disservice by not looking at features in other games and adopting them for WoW. I know some EQ2 devs play WoW... it really shows with a lot of the gameplay features they have
borrowed.

I'm going to sue Blizzard and Sony for using hit points and mana. I totally invented it in 1842.

Haha.. Yeah it's just frustrating to have to fly to thorium point or whatever and run back to blackrock mountain, instead of just jumping off the damn thing when you are at where you want to go.
And I would like to see this implemented with ZERO exceptions and no changes in the flight paths, so if you could over simplify something by jumping off a flight, too damn bad

Gotta agree with Miir on this one, the changes are really good, no matter where they came from.
I quit the game for about 8 months, then I got a really strong urge to play it again, and it's almost totally different. I love most of the new changes, and the newbie quests are great.
The game has gone from a soulless piece of shit to a solid game that stands on its own imo. I try to look at it as a separate game from Everquest, that helps
