Grats Taylor Hicks! Well deserved. I can't wait to hear his first album.
I love Michael MacDonald and Joe Cocker, so I instantly loved Taylor. He has so much music inside him. It is great watching him perform.Funkmasterr wrote:Boo, I wanted the girl to win...
I don't see Taylor's music as being "pop" which is what american idol is, and I'm just not a fan of the jazzy type music I think he will make.

I would still argue that point.. rock can be pop, country can be pop..Boogahz wrote:Funkmasterr wrote:I don't see Taylor's music as being "pop" which is what american idol is, and I'm just not a fan of the jazzy type music I think he will make.
I brought up that same argument a few weeks ago, and I was reminded that none of the prior winners were really "pop" singers.

I would consider the two girls that have won (not fantasia) pop.. I can't remember names though.
Country as a whole has shifted closer to pop, mostr defintely. Ole school country was way too boring and didn't appeal to the mainstream. They recognized that back in the early 90's. Back when every country singer had the good ole digitzed voice added over their own, just like much of the pop songs of today. Usually it is saved for the Ashlee Simpson types who actually can't sing very well.Funkmasterr wrote:I am not by any stretch of anyones imagination a country fan, nor do I claim to be really knowledgeable about country music, but.. In my opinion (I could be wrong) I think that people like faith hill, carrie underwood, and a lot of other country singers in the last decade or so (mostly women) are far from your traditional country singers.. even like garth brooks.. etc. I think they are more pop/country if there is such a thing.
I agree. =(Funkmasterr wrote:I am not by any stretch of anyones imagination a country fan, nor do I claim to be really knowledgeable about country music, but.. I am kinda surprised too, and I agree on the takedowns. It's the drama and funny shit that makes the show enjoyable for me, once you get to the point where everyone can basically sing I'm bored out of my mind.noel wrote:I was kinda surprised they let him get as close to Paula as they did.
I think they should broadcast a few takedowns. I think that would do wonders for the ratings.

Yet, you dislike me.noel wrote:
I'd add that I really, really like Simon for his brutal, brutal honesty.
It's inevitable, the way Idol will be from here forward is decided by the masses that vote (majority of which are probably 12-18) so voting is going to be based off of looks, and very under-developed tastes in music. To be honest I have never seen a contestant in the final 12 of any season of american idol whose cd I would look for a torrent of, let alone actually pay for in a store.Midnyte_Ragebringer wrote:Yet, you dislike me.noel wrote:

I love American Idol. I laughed my ass of last night. I'm hoping once they get through the first round it gets a little better than last year. I really don't want another Sanjaya incident to happen again this season.
I'll give you credit for admitting it. I think she has a nice voice, but I don't like her music at all.noel wrote:I'll fucking say it.
I really don't care what anyone else thinks.
I enjoyed and continue to enjoy Kelly Clarkson's first album. I enjoy hearing her sing live, I think she's got a great voice. I've never listened to her second album, though the one song I did hear on the radio was horrible. I'm not listening to it all the time, but I did pay for it, and I do like it. I mostly listen to rock/trance, but occasionally I like me some cheesy pop and her music fits the bill just fine.
After that, I can name a few ex AIers, but I don't think any of them have been truly successful or noteworthy. Except for Bo Bice. He sucks ass.
Yep. I love Kelly Clarkson. I also DL'd a couple of Daughtry's songs. Oh, and the one McPhee song she had was good to.noel wrote:I'll fucking say it.

That's going a bit far for me. Maybe if a disease comes out that turns people gay and I catch that very disease, then maybe....just maybe...I'll have a desire to grab that game.noel wrote:If you guys have friends that aren't a bunch of tight-asses, get yourself a USB microphone and grab the Karaoke Revolution: American Idol game for the PS2. It's actually a lot of fun.

You're 100% correct. Until pretty recently though, I didn't know she was from AI!miir wrote:Carrie Underwood has been a phenomenal success. After that, I can name a few ex AIers, but I don't think any of them have been truly successful or noteworthy
6x platinum, fastest selling country debut in history (in an era where music sales are imploding), 4 AMAs, 13 Billboard awards, 2 Grammys, Seven number 1 hits.
Her latest album has sold close to 3 million in 3 months.
I'm not a fan of country music by any means, but I'm pretty sure you would consider her success pretty damn noteworthy.
Yeah she is by far the most successful AI winner, and has only been out what - 2-3 years?miir wrote:Carrie Underwood has been a phenomenal success. After that, I can name a few ex AIers, but I don't think any of them have been truly successful or noteworthy

Yeah same here, I have beat the singing solo tour on expert, and can get 100% or close on a lot of songs on hard. I am working on getting 100% on expert to get the achievement, I'm gonna get all 1000 for rock band! The Black Sabbath song "paranoid" I think is the one I will probably get it on, for some reason I can just nail the vocals on that one.Fash wrote:I'm mildly disturbed that I can get 100% singing vocals on hard difficulty in Rock Band (i.e. maps, roxanne) while one of my friends fails on easy.
