What im asking is, playing EQ1 for 5+ years, should i play eq2 for the lore and history? Like, will I go "HEY i remember playing this dungeon in shittier graphics 3 years ago!"
Or will I say "OMG ITS TOVAX VMAR?!" (etc)

While there's some throwbacks and tips of the hat, from my understanding the EQ2 world is a different "timeline" that split around the time of Omens of War. They did that so new EQ1 content didn't dictate EQ2 content and vice versa.

Yeah what Dregor said. There are some neat references that you will notice... like they have Heritage quests for certain items what were "uber" when EQ first came out (Dwarven Work Boots, J Boots etc...), and you will recognize the names of some of the places (it is stil norath just blown up into smaller continents).
However, it isn't a "sequel" - new story lines, new dungeons, new monsters etc.... It takes place so far in the future after EQ1 that there is no clear connection between the two.

You'll get lots of deja vu moments in EQ2.

Yeah, when our guild killed Lockjaw and the guild message came across that he was killed in an epic battle, I nearly cried.

I'm saving my Red bottle caps from Coke so I can get 400 pts and get the game for free. I'll give it a go then. (at 164 pts now)
