I don't remember the frame rate sucking this hard

I'm on newbie island and I am getting something like 5-10 fps. EQ2 used to run alright on my PC and I've upgraded nearly everything since then. Does anyone know of any options that majorly speed up frames on this game?

Nope. You should quit and play City of Heroes or something.

Good job on fagging up another thread. Have you ever said anything that isn't stupid and annoying?

Personally I started with the high performance setting and then tweaked it up from there. I never run with flora turned on. Also (obviously), watch your render distance and amount you allocate for torches and spell effects. How far you can push the graphics is really going to depend on your system specs. Sometimes I can run the highest quality, sometimes I can't. It really depends on the type of content in each zone.

Pretty much the same for me.
The only areas that seem to lag me hard are Qeynos Harb, the docks area of Zek and Maj Dul.

well here's the thing. it ran better on my old computer than this one. my PC can run oblivion outdoors with most shit cranked up at around 30 fps. in zones like newbie island and peat bog I am lucky to get 5fps around the pond area and most of the places on newbie island. this is running on balanced setting. If I put it one notch higher, it plays like I'm running two instances of oblivion at the same time.
I just updated my drivers to the latest and got a little bit of a boost but not anything that makes it worthwhile.
I'm not a fps whore or anything; I don't require 120 fps to enjoy the game, but I do need it high enough that it doesn't effect my control.

Do what they said Kyou - start with "high performance" and then tweak settings up.
The link below will take you to a thread which specifically addresses each visual setting in EQ2, and how much they affect performance, and where you should set them depending on your machine. A lot of it is common sense, but it helped me in getting the most graphics with as little lag as possible:

Oh I got confused with high performance thinking it was one step above balanced.
I'll give it a try.
I have an nvidia 78000 GS.

Cool, you should be good to go then. I'm running an 6800GT with a 3000+ Athlon and I do just fine at 1280 on the first setting below balanced witha few uptweaks. My mom has a 3.4 P4 and a 1600x1080 widescreen running a 7600GT and she runs great on balanced.
