Damn if the sharkies don't look REAL good right now

I think if I'm impressed by any Western Team thus far its Colorado. Dallas isn't playing great but Colorado is playing almost flawless and all over any opportunity the Stars leave. Is Theodore the second coming of Roy for them and capable of leading them all the way?

The Sharks don't look bad, but they are playing a team without their number 1 goalie and as strong as Cheechoo and the offense are, Toskala has looked beatable. The tail end of last night's game looked like the Sharks were on the ropes and lucky to hang on. I think they'll beat Nashville but they need to stiffen up their D or they will be fodder in the next round.

Montreal was looking pretty good in the East but with Koivu lost, I wonder how they will do. His loss is a pretty big hole for the Habs. Ottawa looks like they may finally be the juggernaut people have been waiting for, for about the past 5 years but its early. And New Jersey's domination of the Rangers is looking impressive and making me wonder if Brodeur has got his game back and the scoring in front of him to make a run.

Sentiment says I still want Stevie Y to get a last Cup before he retires but the field looks wide open at this point.

It has been a pretty interesting playoff so far. The lack of experienced playoff goalies is making it that way. Brodeur is going to lead the Devils very far but don't think they will make it to the finals.

I'm really loving my Habs right now. Kovalev and Ryder have really stepped up their play but like Wulf said, without Koivu, it leaves a big hole in leadership and scoring in their roster.

I cant believe Dallas, or more specifically Turco. A lot of the goals scored on him where not very good but thats no excuse. Another shocker would have to be Edmonton. Not the fact that they are holding their own, but the fact that they are playing perfect hockey. They barely make mistakes and are great a keeping the powerful RedWings lineup at bay.

Buffalo and Philly will kill each other by the end of this round that they will lose to anyone that faces them next.

If I had to pick 2 teams for the finals, I would have to say San Jose (mainly because of Thorton, Marleau and Cheechoo) vs Montreal (they have new life in them it seems).

East sends it's 1, 2, 3 and 4 rank teams...

West sends 5, 6, 7 and 8...

GO SHARKIES!

so your chances just got a lot better from the creation of this thread.

What odds will you give me on Sharks vs. the rest of the field?

kiss your 1000 VVs good bye... Toskala is too shaky to win two more rounds of the playoffs.

I don't have $1000 right now, so i'll have to take the 1000vv's.

Consider it a bet. Sharks vs rest of field. 1-1. 1000vv's.

The real hero coming out of these playoffs so far would have to be Cam Ward. He came in and shut the Canadians down and is doing the same thing against a team with 2 amazing scoring lines.

I know that you traditionally have pretty poor taste in the things that you like (music, sports, etc), but you better not be saying you don't like Steve Yzerman!! He's got to be on the short list of the greatest players of all time.

One of the greatest players and probably one of the greatest captains of all time too.

*cough* Ryan Miller *cough*

And Stevie Y is what we all wish professional athletes would be: a great player, a great leader, a classy person and a great example to hold up in front of your kids.

Miller is playing well, but it's been a team effort... You also have to look at who they have been playing. Philly was too slow and Ottawa are pulling thier yearly choke.

Miller has given up 4 or more goals 3 times so far. He has a GAA of 2.38 compared to Ward's 1.38 and a Save% of 0.915 to Ward's 0.944.

Granted, those are still good stats, but not in the same ballpark. Toskala has better stats so far (GAA of 1.72 and SV% of 0.933). Props to Bryzgalov too for 3 straight SOs.

If I had to rank the goalies so far, it would be Ward, Bryzgalov, Toskala, Miller.

1000 VVs to anyone that can find me the video of the 5 on 3 (really 5 on 1 as 2 guys had no freakin stick) powerplay kill by the sharks in the second period, that was the craziest thing I have ever seen.

The Oilers are hanging tough in that series.
Of all the conference semis, I thought that would be the blowout series.

Was wonderful to see Ottawa choke in glorious fashion on the weekend. :D

Ya, I feel bad for Alfredsson, Chara and Redden though because I think they deserve to win a Cup in their career but as long as they have Hasek, Heatley, and Spezza, I want that team to fail.

They have crapton of free agents next year so it's gonna be near impossible for Muckler to keep the team together. Might be a good thing for them in the long run as the current team is clearly incapable of matching it's regular season performance in the playoffs.
I like/hate Alfredsson becuse he's so talented and he's got a real nasty streak, but I don't think he's captain material. He has a tendancy to just disappear in the spring.

I got a laugh out of the SJ fans booing the Canadian anthem... I guess they don't realise that their top players are all.. ummm.. Canadian. Thornton, Cheechoo, Marleau... Not to mention the GM and coach are both Canadan as well.

Yeah, I rolled my eyes irl when I saw that news bit pop up. Pretty ridiculous. Hopefully the fans in Edmonton won't do the same thing.

That really annoyed the crap out of me. I'm all for booing the other team, but wait until the game starts to get into it.

I think they just need stop stop playing both anthems and just sing the one the home crowd belongs to. Most athletes are too busy mentally preparing for the game then paying attention to the anthem.

I'm just wondering if San Jose can bounce back... 2 games in a row they've allowed 6 goals. Some of that rests on the team defense but usually the goaltender's performance looms larger. Roloson has been stealing games for Edmonton before now: can Toskala answer?

Posted: May 17, 2006, 9:44 am
by Trek
Well Toskala has been outstanding, but I think he is pretty shaken right now. I doubt the Sharks can bounce back against these Oilers.

That's before the value of the USD crashed. It's now $2.38 per VV.
