How much TV do you watch?

I noticed today that since my HD-Tivo went down three weeks ago I haven't watched any TV at all and haven't missed it. The only reason I even thought about it is because I'm still paying my DirecTV bill.

If I ever kicked the sports habit, I'd probably dump TV altogether and just download the few series and movies I liked and look forward to HD-DVD movies.

For the poll purposes above, I'm ignoring sports but you can mention that's what you watch.

This poll has probably been done before. I don't care!

TV.. I can do without it. And do! I don't even have cable. I don't think I'm missing anything. Although I do pick up a few episodes of things on usenet and other places.

My TV habits don't fit well in the poll...

I normally keep it on a local news station for traffic, weather, and news updates with local activities. I will catch random documentaries and such along with occasionally watching some random program rather than watching a specific series. I thought about "upgrading" to my cable company's HD-DVR, but I don't really want to watch that much TV. All of my friends who have the DVRs use the hell out of it even if they did not really watch TV before getting it.

I watch Lost on Wednesday night and the local news every morning. Other than that I download all the series I want to watch like Battlestar Galactica. Mostly I watch movies and sports. I have the very basic cable package because I am too far away to get decent local channels. That package gives me the networks plus ESPN2 and National Geographic Channel.

I may sign up for HD when football starts in the fall. I will probably dump it again soon after though.

I admit, I watch a good amount of TV. I have it on when I work out - and I have it on when I cook. And I have it on to veg-out after I finish studying. I wouldn't really call myself a couch potato, though b/c I don't always sit still when watching!

TV in my house is on probably about 18 hours a day, every day for the last 2 years since I started to work at home. I don't sit and watch all the time but I record a shitload of programming and then speed watch it skipping commercials and boring parts.

My TV time is random, it's rare that I sit down with the intent to watch something in particular. I'll usually surf through Comedy Central, History, Discovery and Spike, if nothing good is on the TV gets turned off again.

Been watching the new Dr. Who show on Fri evenings lately, beyond that TV is just space filler when I can't find anything else to do.

I have my set things that I watch. I don't have Tivo and I tend not to watch the tape if I recorded it so if I miss it I miss it. I mainly have it on while I am playing WoW and then usually on Friday night for the Sci Fi lineup.

If I have something playing in the background while I do something else like cook/clean, it's always a DVD. I actually sit down and watch television maybe once or twice a week, an hour at most.

I'll watch a film or two a week...I'm outside watching the critters in my backyard (birds, squirrels, racoons etc) or gardening, when I have free time...

I was watching a lot of TV this past fall because of football and the Friday night lineup on SciFi. Now that sports are over and Battlestar is reruns, I haven't turned on the TV except for a few NCAA bball games.

I watch 3 shows religiously, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, and Boston Legal. Other than that I don't watch any tv at all.

While I love watching movies, the only shows I make an effort to watch are 24, the Daily Show, occasionally the Colbert Report, and maybe Family Guy / Venture Bros. (when it airs)

The only TV i really find myself watching is when i lay down to bed, i usually flip on cartoon network for adult swim every night. Besides that, there are just random times when i watch TV, like yesterday, Cinemax was playing Legend and i had no choice but to watch it. The TV is in my room so it is usually always on, be it music channels, comedy central, cartoon network, ABC family for a dose of boy meets world every now and then.. but its usually just on and im not watching it.

30 minutes before work to catch traffic, local news and weather.

Sometimes in the afternoon I'll catch some C-Span, Discover or Good Eats. Weekend is a few car shows and thats it for me.

I'd watch a lot more TV if more good movies aired on cable (outside of the movie channels). If I'm raiding or something, I have TV on for something to listen to but I do not watch it.

At night I watch a little TV while I go to sleep. Generally I'm watching Family Guy or some late night movie that's being aired. I don't really watch anything religiously because I find it impossible to find time for that.

Sometimes I get cought up in documentary films about whatever, so I picked 10-20 hours a week for my guesstimate on the poll. I'd say something around 13 hours is fair. An hourish of TV at night + whatever I get suckered into watching other times.

Ever since I planted my exercise bike in front of the tv, I've been watching 15-25 hours a week.

The only show I really "watch" is BSG, if the kids get in bed early enough I'll watch the daily show or play EQ2. Since I don't have a TV in the office... I usually choosing gaming over TV, even though I love the daily show.

Movie wise I've seen every frackin' (see BSG) Disney cartoon and/or movie ever made. I try to limit the kids exposure to TV but we do have it on NOGGIN in the mornings and it's usually "on" all day Saturday but no one really pays attention to it.

So my TV right now is pretty much zero but I put 1-10 as every couple of weeks they will have something I want to watch on the History Channel or something and like I said, if I can catch TDS I will.

However with movies I can tell you that we usually watch at least 2 kids movies every weekend. Now if you don't have kids you may not understand that "watching" a movie can take hours on end and may include naps, baths etc... in between. My one staple is that every night before Joseph goes to sleep with sit up in his room and watch an Episode of Batman the Animated Series (need to get more, only have first 3 seasons) or Batman Beyond or one of the Batman cartoon movies (not all of a movie, just part). While I was never a huge Batman fan, my son is and I've found the animated series and beyond to be very entertaining!

Marb

PS - I do have a DVR and use it to record "Jack's Big Music Show" off NOGGIN when a new episode appears for the boys. When BSG is on I record that as well just in case I miss it.

I watch Lost. Once in a while I watch cartoons. That's it, I read with the rest of my free time at home now that I quit gaming.

A great mod for the early EQ days would have been the ability to bring up an E-Book window while camping a spawn.

I watch Lost, the Sopranos (Deadwood and/or Carnivale when in season), the OC, Family Guy, Prison Break, The Office and Earl. All of them on Tivo though so I don't have to watch commercials.

I Tivo the Daily Show every day but probably only watch a couple episodes a week before they're overwritten. Colbert Report I watch if I'm going to bed and it's on. I also really enjoy HD nature programs on Discovery HD or the inHD channels.

I watch a good amount of sports, be it Football, Basketball, Hockey or Golf. And if I'm too hungover to leave the couch I will watch whatever garbage is on MTV or VH1, I have a problem with reality television.

All that still only adds up to probably 10 hours a week, tops.

I know, the rules of being a man preclude us from watching the OC.

That said, I watch it with one male friend and three females, and there's booze involved. The combination of chicks and drinking trump any other rules.

It's also somewhat entertaining. You've watched 90210 before, I know you have! It's the same thing really, just with hotter chicks. Oh and now I'm a dirty old pervert, instead of actually being in high school, while watching.

Whatever!

The fact that you're liquored up while watching it saves you some face, but still! The 90210 argument is flimsy. I think I watched some of the first episodes of that, but I was I think like 14? People said it was cool to watch so I tried, but even then I knew it was crap!

So I reiterate:

If you were a real man you'd say "we aint watchin this bitches" then grab the remote and change the channel. If they threaten to leave, let them. A man's gotta have priorities.
