Fuck Everything, We're doing 5 blades...

...and they pulled it off very very well.

I bought myself a Gillette Fusion last night and gave it a test run this morning.

The thing is great.

First stroke, where I could usually feel the blades taking off the morning beard stubble, I really could only feel the pad of the razorblade running along my face. The shave was very confortable and after one stroke from the razor, everything what smooth. Even the upstroke against the grain(which I rarely do cause I have sensitive skin and is usually painful) was extremely comfortable. Last time I had facial skin this smooth, I was 8 years old.

The 6th trimming blade at the back of the assembly is really well put together as well. I had thought that having a single blade on an edge would be somewhat dangerous but it is somewhat recessed into the cartridge so give the precision you need without being a risk for cuts or gashes.

I dunno if any of you remember the shaving comfort jump that you experienced going from the Sensor to the Mach3, however I would qualify the difference between the Mach3 to the Fusion to be about the same.

I bought the non-powered version of the Fusion.

I bought the non-powered version of the Fusion.
That boggles my mind. Has anyone tried a "powered" version of any razor? I just can't fathom how that would work with a razor blade. Quite possibly it is not the torture instrument that I am envisioning.

I have the powered 5 blade Fusion. There was a coupon where I got the thing for $4 bucks.

I was using the HeadBlade to shave my head daily:

And while I like the ergonomics of the HeadBlade...it only accepts Gilette Atra Plus cartridges....which for some reason do not get me as smooth as I want on the dome.

I had used the powered M3 on my face and liked it enough. With the coupon I thought I would give the Fusion a try.

Verdict: The Fusion gives an amazing shave. I won't ever have use for the single blade on the backside...but the 5 blades with the powered handle give my head a baby smooth shave...I cannot feel any stubble at all.

Oh, the powered version is not a torture device at all. It kind of micro-vibrates just enough to do the job well. When the M3 first came out I thought it was funny to have 3 razorblades oscillating...sounded like a Darwin Award candidate may have come up with the idea. But you should give it a try...it really does make a difference.

The only drawback is the ridiculous price for the replacement cartridges. My stubble has the texture of copper wire...I chew through blades...usually I can get 2 shaves out of the regular....5 out of cryo blades. I need to buy in bulk...

I actually thought the new blade on the rear is a genius idea for sideburn trimming and what not.

I personally don't give a fuck if it has 2 blades, or 20. The pivot system that Gillete came up with makes all the difference in the world to me.

Had the chance to use the non-powered one for about two weeks now as we get all kinds of pre-release products due to my wife's job. Not bad, I guess it's the best shave cart out there imo. It seems better than the mach3 albeit doesn't rise out as cleanly because the space between the blades is much smaller.

Gillette is a smart company. They get reliable data that ~50% of 25-54 year-old men have some sort of facial hair and than come up with the back trimmer idea to improve their shave. I've used it exclusively for that little spot under my nose that these monsterous blades have trouble reaching and it does work. I would be curious to see how those sporting goatees find it. They are also smart because they probably don't use any more steel to make the Fusion than the Mach3 because each of the individual blades are much smaller. I certainly don't think it's worth the 12.99 or 13.99 prices for a 4-pack. I normally buy bulk packages from BJ's for blades so if they can keep the price per unit down, I'd buy it, but the Mach3 is already a very good razor.

Will the M3 Power blades fit the fusion attachment?....

Just like the reg M3 blades fit the M3 Power...

I might end up giving it a try... but I have a beard trimmer for my gotee, a Braun self cleaning electric for reg shaving... and the M3 power for when I need a nice shave. Course, I normally have stubble during the week, it rarely matters at my job.

While I've never tried it, I am pretty sure it won't. The Fusion is a generational jump just as the mach3 was to sensor or the sensor to the atra.

i just bought this thing and totally love it. the razor on the back is the win for sideburns and those damned hairs right under your nose. i got the non powered one because unless there was a misprint on price, you can get 8 refills for 13 bucks for the non powered one and 8 refills for 25 bucks for the powered. unless that orange rubber thingy does something i dont know about, wtf.

The blades should be able to swap between the powered and non-powered. I really haven't noticed much of a difference between the two blade cartridges on the Mach 3.

Even the upstroke against the grain
At first glance, I thought 'grain' was 'groin'. My first thought was: 'Wow, what a sense of adventure!'

Fusion Power will fit regular Fusion, just as Mach3 fits M3 Power. However, fusion and Mach3 anything aren't compatible, just checked.

I am supprised that no one has mentioned the good old Norelco type electric razors.

Pro:

lasts 10 to 15 years.
blades last 5 years before replacing
no extra shaving cream cost

Con:

ruff shave on a 3 day stubble
cost 20-100 $
should clean at least once a week
need to charge up every 2 months

All in all much much cheaper.
I have only had 2 in the last 30 years and for me they work just fine.

*edit spellink *

i think they have chimps who come up with razor design and marketing campaigns.

they are the fucking stupidest most generic male targeting i've ever seen

ITS A RAZOR AND IT IS CALLED MACH THREE> IT IS A JET> DUDE SHAVING IS LIKE TOP GUN

FUSIION > IT IS LIKE A FUCKING FUSION OF TWO THINGS > ONE IS COOL THE OTHER IS COOLER > MAKING THIS FUCKING COOL

i want a Gillette robot centipede that crawls my face with 100 feet of blades

anyway i use a gillette sensor and i'm not buying a new razor with more expensive cartridges just because they sell it.

I picked one up last week. Nice shave, for sure. However, blades rip my face apart if used even 3 days later.... I may need to just get an electric.

Tough beard, sensitive skin...meh

I always use electric first then a razor. For shaving my head I can just go straight at it with the blade since it is not as sensitive.
