i finally got the hdtv, and now i need sound. i'd like to go with an A/V receiver, i think. the tv has one hdmi input with sound (and one without sound) and 2 component video inputs.

i'm leaning towards a denon receiver, but i know zero about this stuff. i'd like to keep it under $2k for surround sound speakers and receiver, total. any suggestions?

also, i live in an apartment building, so i don't want to make my neighbors cry too much... just a little, to punish them for having a dog that wakes me up.

The Yamaha YSP line might interest you, since you have an apartment.

There's a review. It's basically a single speaker that emulates surround sound (very well, supposedly). So, all you would need is that, a receiver, and a sub.

I like Pioneer Elite receivers and Paradigm speakers. But may be hard to get a full surround system with those components for under 2k. In otherwords I dont have much advice to give.

Although check local speaker shops. Some have upgrade programs. That's how I got my Studio 20s. Started with lower models and upgraded every year.

I picked up a nice little Onkyo TX-603 AV Receiver. Best feature is the 3 component video inputs. It does not have HDMI though.

I used a set of 4 polk sattelites, a center channel and Polk Sub. All tolled, it cost about $1100.

Whatever you do, dont leave out this!

Harmony 880 Programmable Remote.

I love that thing !

Sye, you got the SXRD right?.... If so, make sure that whatever receiver you get has HDMI switching and upconversion... bang for the buck.. the Pioneer Elite VSX72TXVB is probobly your best bet under $1k....

Check with your local boutique Audio/Video store to see if they have speaker upgrade programs... I do a 1 year program where you can trade your speakers in for full value up to 1 year after purchase for an upgrade... pretty common out there with the high end stores...

Otherwise... I really like Boston Acoustics CR series bookshelf speakers for bang for the buck preformance... I HATE satellite supwoofer systems... I think you need at least a decent left, center and right speaker... surrounds, you can get by with satellites...
