It failed two times in a row when I chose 13 as my original #.

Simple proof:
Two digit number: N = n1*10 + n0
The math required:
n1*10 + n0 - (n1+n0) = n1*10 - n1 +n0 - n0 = n1*9
All of the icons for n1*9 (where n1 is an integer) are the same.
