So my doctor put me on an order of Azithromycin and 3 Ibuprofen every 6 hours, and I've been high as a kite. I have no tolerance to meds because I never take them, but this is total trippyville. And I can see open wounds on my tonsils. I couldn't swallow for a while, but I'm fine now.

LOL, I have a six hour knee surgery at 7 am tomorrow. I am going to be spending 2-3 days minimum in the hospital and I will be enjoying the wonderful wonderful world of the morphine pump. Then I get to spend the next 2-4 months on percocet. If Ibuprofen is making you high, you would be dead with this crap.

Tonsilitis does indeed suck. I've had it more than a few times in my life. Worst case was in college, during finals week, when I had to go to the infirmary for dehydration, and had a lovely strep throat/tonsilitis combo of love.

Gonna knock on wood now though, just in case the evil tonsil gods remember me for posting here...

Here's a tip, the dizziness and generally "feeling high" got nothing to do w/ the ibuprofen and everything to do with the tonsilitis.

It could also be due to the antibiotic. I had a similar reaction...twice...while on the same antibiotic. I felt high...disjointed...almost separated from my body. I was lacking coordination and I was so lethargic...but not sleepy tired. The doctor discovered it was due to the antibiotic.

And yes, tonsilitis sucks bigtime. I get it from time to time...I should had those things removed when I was a kid...grrr.

Benadryl completely fucks my shit up. Two teaspoons of that and it's literally like I'm tripping acid. The effect hits me about an hour after I take it and lasts a solid 2 hours or so. I have alternating tingling and numbnees in my extremeties, slurred speech, and even slight visual tracers. I'm serious, it totally whacks me out of my skull. I've never heard of it effecting anyone close to the way it hits me.

Day three of the antibiotics and I'm still feelin' lovely. It makes me sad that it's only a five day prescription. =( I know! I'll make up for it by overdosing on Ibuprofen!

Careful about that... you could develop an allergy to Ibuprofen and then be stuck with tylenol for life!

Thats not an uncommon reaction to Benadryl. Its strong shit. Lots of over the counter shit can fuck you up hardcore. Dramamine and DXM Hbr(in robotussin and other cough \ cold medicines) are the main ones.

They dont feel that great though, imo. Just fuck you up.

It's an antibiotic. Would be unusual to get bacterial tonsillitis and not be given an antibiotic I'd think. Maybe you had viral tonsillitis!

I had chronic tonsilitis when I was a kid, so they yanked them out, and my adnoids all in one swoop.

Isn't Ibuprofen an antibiotic? or am I medically challenged .

It's an anti-inflamatory. The safe adult dose is not to exceed 3200mg in a 24 hour time span. The typical Rx for tonsilits is to take one 800mg Motrin (Ibuprofen) three times per day or roughly every eight hours.

It's mostly harmless unless you take more than 4 800mg pills a day. Popping one and drinking a glass of water before going to bed after a hard night of drinking will knock out most waking headaches.

actually i have that exact same reaction to benadryl. typically i'll fall asleep before it really rolls in. however, the high feeling i get from it only lasts about an hour and half or so.

I'm immune to benadryl, though it sometimes declogs my nose.

Hope you are feeling better. I am on my last day of antibiotics from the surgery, but the percocets are still going strong. Only 7 1/2 more weeks of no weight bearing, then I can gradually add weight every week.

Damn this surgery hurt like hell. I am glad I worked out so hard before the surgery, it has helped me a whole lot.

Anyway, pain meds are making me weirder then normal, hope you get better soon.
