I bet he has the matching CHOKER.

That was a pretty massive choke.
Although, Pittsburgh also choked pretty significantly to even let the Colts into that position.
Good lord, either the Steelers or the Broncos will be in the Super Bowl.

I think it's more a gay ear ring then hip hop.

That game was the first time EVER in pro sports (boxing OBVIOUSLY excluded here) I have said a fix was in. The game was not that close, the call on the field was correct and had it been ruled incomplete on the field, the replay was DEFINATELY clear enough to say it was in interception. I have never seen anything that blantantly obvious in my life.

No need to make light of gay folks. They have dignity.
Lol sideburns, earring and hiphop.

He's a kicker with a drinking problem. He's no millionaire, maybe a hundred-thousandaire...

How much did he make this year?

All jokes aside, he was the #1 most accurate kicker in the NFL before that kick. (he may very well still be)
Did he blow that kick? Yes.
Does he suck as much as everyone jumping on the bandwagon is saying? No, not really.
Preemptive disclaimer. I'm not picking a fight with steelers fans, nor am I saying they didn't deserve their win. I've just seen 12402185092185 threads on various boards in the last week with everyone jumping on Vanderjagt.

I don't think people are saying he's a bad kicker. Everybody's just laughing at him for horribly blowing such an important kick. That ball never had a chance of going through the uprights.

- NFL's all-time most accurate field goal kicker 87%
- Owns the record for the most consecutive field goals at 42
- Colts all time leading scorer
Couldn't find an exact salary for 2005, but it was estimated at over 2 million.
Sure, he'll be the scapegoat for the loss on sunday but the Colts should never have even been in the position to tie the game due to the outrageous non-calls and the interception/non-interception horseshit.
Manning had a lackluster game, the offensive line was horribly ineffective and the defense stunk.
The most ironic thing about the end of that game was that two of the most reliable players on each team fucked up. Bettis hasn't lost the ball on a fumble in the past 2 years... until sunday. And Vanderjagt... well, there's not another kicker in the history of the NFL that any coach would have wanted kicking that field goal in his place.

The football gods are giving Jerome Bettis a Super Bowl appearance in his final year for being the right kind of player throughout his career.

there's just one little speedbump bettis and company still have to get over:

Granted, I'm not an NFL coach, but I can think of a few kickers I would have rather had (hi, Vinateri!) kicking that field goal. Say what you will about streaks and overall %, there's something to be said about "clutch" statistics that aren't recorded in books. I can't give specifics off the top of my head, but if I'm not mistaken that's like the third kick in playoff or similarly clutch situations that Vanderjagt has missed.
Vanderjagt is the Scott Norwood of our generation.

This year, Neil Rackers was the best kicker in the NFL. Go Cardinals!
He's nails and was almost perfect this year and set a record for most FGs in a season on top of being almost perfect. Last year he hit three 50+ yarders in one game alone.
Vanderdootie was good a year or two ago. He's fallen off since.

I can't disagree with you on that... but it doesn't take away from the fact that Vanderjagt is one of the best kickers in NFL history.
Having seen plenty of Vanderjagt early in his career (in the CFL), I've seen him make loads of clutch kicks and awesome punts in the regular season, in the playoffs and in the Grey Cup.

The only one that comes to mind is the 48 yarder vs new england last year... the one that broke his consecutive field goal streak @ 42.

ROFL, we're arguing about what is probably the gayest position to play in football.

I always thought that was the center.. who else bends over and has another man put his hands against his ass and balls and then wipe them on a towel hanging over his crotch for a living?

Kickers are gayer because you get a penalty if you even accidentally touch them.

I was just making fun of hiphop's earring. I give a shit aboat kickers.
I think Jake will have a good game Sunday. Against the Steeler pass rush, he will be moving. When he is on the run, he is one of the most dangerous QBs in the NFL. Also, he has improved his game in the pocket in a huge way.
30-17 Denver

There is only one problem with Jake Plummer: he is Jake Plummer. The Steelers will have Polamalu up closer to the line and that spells trouble for Jake. If he runs, he will get hit hard by Polamalu. The Patriots did a very good job of stopping the Broncos offense and gave them 21 free points. I don't see Pittsburgh giving the Broncos the ball on their own 5 yard line 3 times in this game.
Let me also say this about the Denver defense.....this is the same unit that while number 1 in several different seasons has been gouged for ridiculous amounts of yardage on the ground by such juggernauts as the Bengals. Now they add the entire front 4 of the Cleveland Browns....the same front 4 that the Steelers ran for 395 yards against last year? I predict a big day on the ground.
Steelers by 9.

Regarding that New England game and kick, there was a story circulating on the radio after that game regarding Vanderjagt. According to some fans that were sitting near one of the goalposts (yeah, I know, you can't always believe fans), Vanderjagt was taking part in some verbal sparing with the Foxboro faithful prior to the game. At one point, he pointed to the goal post, and then to himself, in a gesture of 'this belongs to me'. He then went on to unceremoniously miss that aforementioned game-tying field goal at the end of the game.
He's proven to be quite the head case, and despite his phenomenal regular season (dome-aided) accuracy mark, there is no way in hell that I would want him as my kicker if the game was on the line. Of course, being a New England fan, I admit I have been rather spoiled these last 10 years in the kicking department, so I don't have an entirely unbiased view on this.

And in other news, Vanderjagt signs with the Cowboys and guess who replaces him?
Adam Vinatieri
