Isn't Fidel's brother next in line? If so, nothing will change unless someone steps in, and pray that it's not Bush

My sister in-law is Cuban and I'm guessing she would like to see her parents go back there as well. Cross your fingers!

thats what i thought as well, but for some reason all the cubans i know believe that his brother will not be able to continue fidels communist regime...for some reason?
I have always had my opinion about some of the arrogant cubans, such as my grandfather who talk about the "good ol days" when you could have 15 servants for the price of food and shelter, yet it seems pretty unanimous among the Cubans I know that a lot will change with the coming of his death, I still have to laugh when they talk about reclaiming their 3 mile properties along the beach though

Raul Castro has been assigned to take over as Prime Minister of Cuba if anything should happen to Fidel - that's not debatable. He's considered to be significantly more violent than Fidel and much more hardass. He's been the one in charge of most of the Cuban military since 1959 (when Fidel took over leadership) as Minister of Armed Forces. And it's believed that he was the one to sway Fidel in the communist direction as he was a very vocal communist activist (a brutal one, at that) way before Fidel was. The sense I get from the Cubans I know is that the only thing we have to look forward to with Fidel's death (if he ever should fucking die) is that instead of having to wait for two oppressive, power-hungry, inhumane bastards to die, we'll only have to wait for one to croak.

As far as the attempts to have your grandparents detained before they could flee...I'm sure some of their stories *can* be far-fetched but that there was actually way too common. My grandmother's sister was detained on her own land (her house was turned into a makeshift prison) for five years before she was able to flee to Puerto Rico. Several of my grandparents' friends and family were arrested or killed during and immediately following the revolution.
