Help! $25 gift idea

Post by Sylvus »

So we're having a Christmas party in a couple weeks, and we're doing a White Elephant gift exchange, and I need to come up with a gift that is pretty cool for males and females alike that is around $25. Wondering if any of you guys have any good ideas? It can be a little more if necessary, and most of the people at the party will be in their mid-late 20s.

Thanks for any help that anyone can provide.

It's a great gift for White Elephant because it's not something that people need to keep around for long, it's kind of whacky, and it makes for stimulating conversation.

Also, if memory serves, it's right around $20.

Those gifts are contrary to the spirit of the game! They are actually useful and worth something!

We're doing the same thing, but we can do gag gifts. If you can do this also I HIGHLY suggest doing what I am. I am going to take a picture of myself and go down to kinkos to get the BIGGEST POSSIBLE poster of the picture made and giving that. This plan is fucking flawless and comedy gold.

Movie theatre gift certificate!

Whenever we did White Elephant at Xmas time these were the most fought after.

Another idea is a bottle of wine with a couple of glasses.

Buy movie tickets to a really shitty movie for the night before the exchange. The real gift will be that they did not actually get to go.

The best part of White Elephant gag gift exchanges is the wacky shit people dig up to use. I put a pair of plaid polyester pants in the White Elephant bin one year, half the people there had them at one time or another. They ended up getting left behind, I snagged them off the table...and put them back in the following year. These pants became a Christmas party tradition for as long as I was at this job (91 - 97).

Bump.

It's that time of year again. I think I ended up going with an Atari that you hook up to your TV that had all the classics on it last year. Several people fought over that.

This year I might go with something less useful, I'm not sure. If anyone has any new, creative ideas, let me know.

I've decided to go more for a joke gift that everyone will hate than something useful. I just had an idea for the "New Year's Eve Party-in-a-Box".

My current idea is to buy 2 paper party hats, 2 noisemakers, and as much of the shitty, wino-quality booze/wine as $25-30 will buy me. If anyone has any good ideas of other small, cheap things to add to the "party", I'm all ears. I would like to keep it as undesirable as possible. Hmm, I should probably put some condoms in there or something. Maybe I could scale back the amount of shitty booze, and make it like party hats, noisemakers, condoms, lube, and thunderbird/wild irish rose/something along those lines. That right there is a party waiting to happen.

I'm just brainstorming here, help me out!

How about an office ninja pack? (I'm doing this for my sister for Christmas this year). It would be over $25 if you bought everything, but you could pick and choose.

* Real Ultimate Power: The Official Ninja Book($10)
* Ninja Bandaids ($4)
* Ninja Electronic Duster($7)
* WWND? Spin folder($5)
* Ninja Attack Game($5)
* Mini Ninja plushie($10)

Put all of that in a black drawstring bag and you got a kickass office ninja kit. You could even throw in a ninja movie, ninja mask, plastic throwing stars etc!

$25 is on the low side for this, but it's a good idea. I know a few people who've given a certificate for a goat for christmas.

Just got home from a White Elephant party at my work (DA's office, Juv. Dept.) and the gifts were hilarious. Some that topped the list however were a chia pet, a foreplay dart set (hubba hubba, the Judge picked this one! But someone stole it :(), a t-shirt that said "Cara Rocks!!" (supplied by Cara), a framed picture of the boss (haha), a cow bell (booyeah!), A monkey slingshot, and adult sized footie pajamas. I got Moose Munch (how sad and lame is that!)

Put a $20 and a $5 through a paper shredder, then seal it up in a jar and wrap it. That's pretty useless, right?

in all seriousness, if it's going to be a gag exchange...go for it. Your first idea of the new year's eve party in a box was pretty good.

I normally opt for a bottle of liquor, it goes over well.
I'm very much not a fan of gag gifts unless it has been clearly established that the group is doing gag gifts. There's nothing fucking worse than showing up to an exchange were one or two people take the good gift and brought what equates to trash. (this happened in my own family last year)
