Oh my GOD

311 has been one of my favorite bands for quite a while now (since music was released) and for some reason I've never seen them live until monday night.

Best. Show. Ever.

It's so obvious that they love what they do and that they genuinely want to put on a good show.

Anyhow, the band didn't miss a beat musically, the venue was a small one and it was still loaded with over 1000 people. (It was smaller than my old school cafeteria in a school for about 450 kids)

I was front row against-the-barrier and ended up with a 311 wristband from Tim Mahoney at the end of the show, my friend nearly had a drumstick but couldn't catch it heh.

Their setlist was 2 pages long, they played from 8:00 - 11:30 PM, left the stage like they were done and then returned for a 2 song finisher which consisted of "Down" and "Feels so Good".

At one point some kid got by security and jumped up on stage and started dancing around, heh. Nick Hexum saw him, you could see the shock on his face but he kept singing without missing a note and threw the kid off the stage at the same time.

That's talent!

Anyhow, I've rambled. It was an amazing show, so if you like them make sure you go see them!

If you don't like them then go see them so you start liking them.

i have no doubt that they put on a good show, however i generall prefer the live shows of bands who change the songs up a bit.

I don't go looking for a CD recording of a song, i go looking for a live jam.

Pearl Jam was a great band to see live, as is.. /gasp.. Dave Matthews Band. When bands play live i want a whole different feeling for a song, CD recordings are dull and i rarely listen to them if i have a choice for a live recording.

Maybe they did that, i dunno, but either way, i would still enjoy a 311 show.

I'm the opposite way. I go to a concert and specifically compare the guitar from the CD to the live guitar; vocals to vocals; drums to drums, etc. When I cannot tell the difference between live and recorded for any of the aforementioned categories, I am wholly impressed.

Of course, it all sounds so damn cool live.

311 actually did a little of both

For instance, I forgot to mention the amazing drum solo from Chad Sexton in "Applied Science" followed up by each member of the band putting down their instrument and replacing it with a drum and symbol. (thats not how thats spelled when you're talking about the percussion instrument is it?)

They all jumped into the drum solo on their own set of drums and rocked out like that for a couple of minutes. The crowd went nuts.

It's definitely different enough from the CD to keep you guessing, but they show that their CD isn't good only because of mixing and because they can electronically enhance their voices. Get my drift?

exactly, im a skeptic when it comes to music, so i tend to believe every band lip syncs until i see them live and hear for myself. I don't care what the do to enhance their CD, if they put on a show live, then ill be there..

Take Avenged Sevenfold for example..

You know that M. Shadows has a hard time hitting some of those notes live, but he changes it up, and especially since he can't scream anymore, its actual singing in place. They put on a good show live, especially knowing that you are seeing Synyster Gates play his wicked guitar.

For a perfect understanding of a band that can do everything on stage, go see pearl jam. Eddy will match vocals with his CD perfectly and Mike and Stone will play guitar exactly like the CD, or they can change it up and Mike will start playing something completely different and it still sounds incredible. Going to concerts is one of the greatest things you can do in a lifetime IMO, so i don't like carbon copies of a CD on stage, it makes it just seem so blah.
