I don't think most of you were old enough to remember it very clearly, hell some of us old folk have problems remembering them clearly. Most of you know of them from VH1 documentaries.
What was your favorite Hair Band?
I admit, I saw Ratt in concert 5 times while I was stationed in Japan.

Does Aerosmith count? they're still really popular and Steven tyler still has pretty much all the hair too.

Aerosmith btw.

Def Leppard and Motley Crue were probably my favorites, but I liked most of the bands of the time.
More importantly, who had a Joe Dirt haircut!?

Oooh tough decision..
Poison, Def Leppard and Bon Jovi. Honorable mention goes of course to Van Halen in the David Lee Roth era.
P.S. - Whitesnake sucks!

by Voronwë
honorable mention to Van Halen?
there is a big difference between poison, bon jovi, def leppard and bands like Van Halen.
the first group sucks dick. big time. as in no musical talent whatsoever at all.
god those bands suck!!!!
ok hair bands:
Cinderella
When i was in my high school Heavy Metal phase though i like Guns N Roses the most. but they werent crossdressers like those hos in Poison and those other bands, where the lead singer dressed up like madonna....

by Aabidano
I must be old, thought they were all a bunch of gooberheads who didn't quite have the balls to dress up like Kiss (who I never liked for that matter) and didn't have the talent to just "stand up and play".
The 80s were a waste musically for the most part...
Of course, I'd never heard of MTV until I was 20 or so...

Whoever is responsible for MTV's existance needs to have his eyes burned out with his own flaming balls.

I went thru a metal head phase in high school (big teased hair & all), but I liked all the pretty boy bands like Whitesnake, Bon Jovi, Poison...
God I'm glad I don't listen to that crap anymore

Poison
Motley Crue
Whitesnake (who don't suck /rude sirensa!)
Bon Jovi
Twisted Sister

You are forgetting oh so many of them.
Fastway
Dokken
Great White
Scorpions
Krokus
Skid Row
Killer Dwarfs
Slaughter
Warrant

Those groups of men produce the shittiest sounding noise ever to fall upon these ears. I would much rather listen to whiney ass country then shitty ass noise that those people thought were bands or the noise they played as music.

dont think metallica is really ever been considerd a hair band but if u do they were the best fucking band, along with sublime

Cinderella was good
so was Scorpions
Def Leppard
Guns-n-Roses (at first)
Skid Row

wtf Skid Row isnt a hair band!
they just plane RULE.
but not a hair band, they were more early 90's metal
Posted: December 3, 2002, 6:43 pm
by Bubba Grizz
No no no. You can't mix Metallica in with the hairbands. Hairbands are pretty distinct. The bands that Adelrune mentioned all fit the Hairband category.
Bands like Aerosmith, ACDC, Deep Purple, and BOC are a totally different breed of bands.
Damn Adel, I totally forgot about Krokus. I was just thinking about Ballroom Blitz the other day.
For the next 18 and life to go, Skid Row is a hair band.

Yes, they ruled for exactly ONE album which had TWO songs on it. They were only popular because Sebastian Bach was sooooo purdy.
My fave would be Guns and Roses.

They were a hairband until Load came out. And yes they were the best band. And I still love their music.
Can't forget Twisted Sister!

Once again moronwe rears his ugly head.
Def Leppard is 5000 times the band Pisson was, and should not be categorized in the same manner.
Best Hair band of all time: Led Zeppelin, there is not even any value in arguing this, they were the definitive hair band.

i think when we use the term hair band we are talking about the guys who used about 3 cans of aquanet pre concert.
sure plant may have done that for his Big Log video, and maybe the guy in the Firm did that, but Led Zeppelin did not...
i think it was also fairly clear that i think Poison sucks. And so does Def Leppard by the way. if that makes me stupid, then color me ig'nant. i could play their guitar parts with one arm. i saw them 2 times in 9th grade and i had fun, but i was in 9th grade, so not exactly expected to be highly qualified to judge musical competance.

ROFL : )
What a discussion : ) Zeppelin is my favorite 70's hair band. I thought we were talking about the 80's. Rush had some serious hair action going as well but they're canadian and don't count. (they also didn't use aquanet)

hell, check out Bono's hair in the Unforgettable Fire days
is it a mullet? is it a hair band?
who knows!!!???

Def Leppard definetely pwns all hair bands. Was there a hair band called Firehouse? They sucked if thats who im sorta emembering.
Hair bands to me were like pop hard rock bands. Metallica wasn't really main stream to me when these bands were tearing up mtv. Even though successful I considered them out there a bit. Its kinda like saying Led Zepplin is a hair band. Hell you could say they are a blues band because of the way some of there songs sound. Hair bands didn't exist until the 80s IMO.

Wow I didn't realize anyone actually listened to any Skid Row past the 1989 "Skid Row" album.. which coincidentally graced nearly every person I have ever met's CD collection whether they admit to it or not

I would even go so far as to call them one hit wonders - grats 18 and life!
And they were VERY much a hair band. Very Very much. I can recognize Aqua Net abuse a mile away.
And Sebastian Bach was very pretty

Actually, the song that put them on the map was 'Youth Gone Wild'. '18 and Life' got the most video airplay on MTV *puke*. They also had that gay POWER BALLAD, 'I Remember You'.

Well... I think I deserve gold stars for *not* knowing this

*cough* dork!!! *cough*
Yes I was an admitted MTV addict in the 80's.

I did a google search on Skid Row discography, so technically, I didn't 'know' it.

omg are they the band that did that song "The Final Countdown"?!?!
I

that song!

Poison (first album)
Bon Jovi (any album)
Skid Row (first mostly, but any album)
Faster Pussycat
Pretty Boy Floyd
W.A.S.P.
I think the band I was in did songs from pretty much all of them, but those were my favorites. It's funny how everyone is always ragging on the hair bands and the bands of the 80's, but nearly every radio station here in Tampa at least has a retro hour of 80's music, and if you ask any of them, it's their most listened to time period. And all the VH1 shows are on 80's bands, and everyone remembers them.. music hasn't been worth much since the whole grunge thing came. Granted, there are decent bands these days, but nothing like back then. It was more fun then.

yes they did The final countdown and then not much after that hehe
here in Chicago we had an 80's station for about a year, too bad

yeah these were fun times, colorful and fun, so was MTV back then, now it's just TV, not much music left

The favorite *has* to be Def Leppard!
Anybody who can play the drums in a rock band with one arm has got to earn some respect.

Van Halen/Def Leppard own

Def Leopard, Stryper, and Guns n Roses.
I'm not really sure if they qualify, but if Dream Theater counts as a hair band, they win by a long shot on my list. Otherwise, it'd be those 3 really close together.

I loved MTV in the 80's when it was about the music. Now it is about stupid sitcoms and teen porn.
Twisted Sister and KISS invented hair bands and actually had the talent to back it up. Most of the rest were copycats with very little talent.

They were also all 70s bands, before the hairspray addictions set in.
