So my boss sends me an email this morning telling me he's quitting on 11/4. I responded with the ever meaningful =(. He then tells me "I recommended you as my replacement" - I responded =). Then he said "Sike". I have not had the word "Sike" used on me since 3rd maybe 4th grade, does anyone else ever hear this term since the 80's?

Uh, that's exactly what a 'psych(s) out', you try to fool someone into thinking one thing, then you do/say the opposite.
The exact thing that Sylvos boss did.

'Sike' is not even a word.

It's a misspelling of a common word by internet retards who think ridiculous has an 'e', the correct spelling of voila is 'walla', who are too fucking stupid to learn the difference between your and you're so they spell them both 'ur'... the same ones who have no idea of the proper usage of their, they're and there.

Man, is the education system that fucking horrible now?

I dunno Miir, we've always used Sike. Probably since its origins are derived from a 4th grade slang word that usually involved a head bob and you making a striking cobra gesture while saying "SIKE!"

Personally I prefer SIKE! cause it's fun and happy

and probably since being from Alabama, they have to shorten everything to 4 letters or less to have any chance at spelling them.....much like them shortening the state name to "Bama"

What an incredibly stupid and irrelevant reply.

It's spelled 'psyche' in California.

Oh, so you guys would bob your head, make a cobra gesture and write the word 'sike' with your crayons?

OK, I can forgive a 4th grader from Alabama for not knowing how to spell psych.... I suppose it's probably too much to expect a 15 year old to understand the real origin and spelling of the word.

I had a similar mental block with the word segue... Every time I would see it spelled out, I'd ask myself what the fuck is a seh-gue?

You mean like when you tell Sylvos you really are hot for him and then he gets all ready and you go "Sike" ?

Not really sure that a slang term for a gesture has a correct spelling. I'm sure someone will be bored enough to look it up in a slang dictionary to make a silly point though.

I mean sure you can say that the grade-school action is a derivative of psych-out and note that psych-out is in the dictionary, but really, what the fuck is the point in getting your panties all creamy over the spelling.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not totally attacking the spelling nazis - I just think some slack should be cut for slang terms that no one probably ever writes out.

Yup it's psych...

Facade was the one that threw me until about 13 or 14...

I see/hear so many contrived phonetic spellings and hosed pronunciations these days...

The terminal e in greek and greek derived words is pronounced. As in Nike, Ares...

and to add - the one point I think everyone is missing is... We all know how to spell psych that was never the issue. We spell the slang part of it as "Sike" cause that's how we spelled it as kids. I don't think anyone is going to disagree that you spell it correctly as psych, but when you are reverting back to 4th grade and using it in a joking environment "Sike" is gonna work just fine.

You actually SPELLED it as a kid? lol, goob!

P.S. - Goob is a derivative of the werd goober, which is like a booger. So by calling you goob, I am using slang to mean booger. Goobers are also chocolate covered peanuts. Which look kind of like turds. So there may just be conflicting definitions of goob.
