Google Tool Bar Spell Checker

Anyone use the Google toolbar spell checker for web forms? I hadn't grabbed a new version of the toolbar for awhile so this feature may have been available for awhile. It checks the spelling of any form window you type in including VV messages you type on this board.

It works well with drop down suggestion list for misspelled words. Nice if I remember to use it. It's hard to hate Google, even if they are going to rule the world eventually, with the useful things they put out.

It got annoying to me pretty quickly. And by and large, I don't care if I make the occasional spelling error, but it is pretty slick.

How did it annoy? It only checks if you click the "check" button on the toolbar, otherwise nothing happens.

I'll probably forget to use it most of the time but having a spellcheck handy seems useful. For me, bad grammar can't be helped. I write most of these posts at work and end up stopping mid sentence to do something else and then finishing up later so you'll see a lot of, "Eventually there will be a be a gerbil large enough that Richard Gere can't fit it up his ass." with double word sets mixed in. Or things like this:
There's no doubt it's an odd movie to get a handle on but in the end I enjoyed it more the second time I saw it more than the first.
Added an extra more on that one. Remove either "more"!

Where's archeiron been lately? He was the king of grammar. Most of the grammar discussions on this board break down into flames.

In this thread, there are a few grammar wars early on and then it heats up on page 4 and 5:

(if your settings are 50 posts to a page)

Here's the "Ban Cartalas" thread. Forthe breaks down poster styles, Karae votes to ban 50% of the board, Atokal jumps in to take some of the heat off Cartalas, Jice makes a post trying to say something nice but while he's writing it, Atokal totally screws up his point. lol, good thread:

Hmm, not really anything about grammar in that last one!

Though I haven't used the feature, and therefore am not suited to comment, I find that all spell-checking devices are awful implementations for anybody that can consistently form an accurate sentence. Watching MS Word underline sentences and words that I know are correct pisses me off.

It's not a grammar checker. It's a spell checker that doesn't do shit unless you hit the "check spelling" button.

In that case, it could be moderately useful for people that aren't very savvy with words. Like I said, I was ignorant.

It's not about savvy. That implies that the poster doesn't know the meaning of the mispelled word. I see it more as a useful tool for a rushed post from work with typos.

It's not a dictionary. It's a spell checker. It checks spelling if you click a button. That's it.

For those wanting a dictionary/thesaurus, WordWeb has an outstanding free one that can sit in the taskbar and takes very little memory. I've used it for years to look up words:
