ok im about to ask a stupid question but ...

how do you copy a dvd if you only have 1 burner thats a dvd burner?

can you rip the dvd then burn it onto a dvd? if so how =-D

Use DVD Shrink

It's free and does everything you need to burn a DVD. The process takes awhile but you also have control over the quality by adding or removing extra features, soundtracks, etc.

It doesn't matter if you have only one dvd player/burner. The only thing you will need is room on your hd for the dvd to be stored while the program copys and then burns it.

I use DVD Decrypter to copy the files off of the DVD to the hard drive, then DVD Shrink to compress it enough to fit on a single-layered DVD.

You'll need up to 15 gigs of free space to store the files (depending on the size of the data) , but can be removed after you've made your burn.

Oops, doesn't DVD Shrink also decrypt? It's been awhile.

I guess it's been so long since I've done this that new copy protection systems so you need DVD Decrypter.

Another neat program to check out is RatDVD. It takes a DVD image and shinks it into a smaller file while preserving the entire menu system, etc so you can play the shrunk single file like a normal DVD using menus...and then you can burn it back to DVD later if you wish. It's a good way to store/archive a copy of a DVD.

This is a good site with guides and directions towards finding the software and the resources to complete your new hobby. Netflix for the win!

DVDDecrypter is no longer updated. I believe DVDShrink falls into that category as well. DVDDecrypter however has worked on every DVD I've put at it. Shrink will do so with using DVD43 (Think that's the name), which is a protection remover for things Shrink doesn't support.

There's a couple commercial products out there, but haven't used them so can't say how good they are.

So far... and I haven't burned but a few movies which are older and I can't purcahse, DVD Shrink has worked on every one of them. Movies are cheap so I just usually buy them if I'm actually going to watch them more than once... but as I said, I just use DVD Shrink and it copies everything to the HD, shrinks it then autolaunches Nero to burn... takes about 30-40 min per DVD for the entire process on my XP3000+ you just have to check it mid way through to switch out the DVDs

i can get it to save it to HD but it won't burn it with nero =-( says my trial version is expired bla bla bla

or can you save it to hd with shrink then burn it though shrink too?
