Question: Kindness

When someone describes a person as "kind", what do you take that to mean? How do *you* perceive kindness? I know what dictionary.com says about it. I'm hoping to get different people's interpretations.

Thanks!

Consideration for others, selflessness.

I think Siji summed up my view on it as well.

Putting others before yourself.

Empathic, understanding, caring. Friendly, warm-hearted, considerate? We've discussed this - I don't think 'kindness' necessarily equals 'selflessness' - it is possible to be kind without being selfless.

I suppose the dorf has a point, but selflessness helps.

Kindness is the ability to feel the pain of others and actually give a fuck about it.

Perhaps this?

Understanding the needs and concerns of others and doing what is in your power to alleviate them/fulfill them.

Kindness is a town just outside of New York. There, you will find birds that sing, and trees made of candy.
I remember this one time when I was 7, my family took a trip up to Kindness. We drove around for hours just enjoying all the beautiful sites of Kindness. I was blown away by how great everything seemed, so I turn to my father and smiled. And then my father stuck penis in my mouth and started screeming at my mother. My mother then lifted her leg and urinated on me. And then I turned to the guy at the desk and said, "The Aristocrats".

My name is Sparty

Hrm. I would say kindness is form of actively expressing empathy for others.

I would say kindness is not selflessness.

I'm not kind!

Selfless may or may not be kind. Kind may or may not be selfless. It all depends on circumstance.

It could be considered selfless to strap a bomb to oneself and blow up the enemies of one's country...I would be hard to view that act as kind

It is kind to donate some money/food to help feed those who cannot feed themselves...It is selfless to send everything you earn to feed others

Throwing a $5 chip to a player you just wiped out in Poker so they can at least buy a drink is kindness.
