Mouse Pad Suggestion?

In my current state of unemployment, I have been playing WoW for lots of hours a day.
What I am looking for is suggestions from people who also spend a lot of time at the computer a day
The problem I am running into is my whole hand and wrist are starting to get sore/numb and causing me discomfort from my hand resting on the desk while using my mouse for extended periods of time.
I was thinking about getting one of those mouse pads with the raised gell pad at the front of it, but I figured I would look for some suggestions here.

Are you sure that is the mouse that is causing you that pain?
Actually the gell pads help keep your arm in the position it is supposed to be in and it is kind of comfy. You should try one out. It isn't expensive and can be found at any office products store like Office Max or Depot.

i found that the gel pad was causing more pain for me... it was putting pressure on my wrist, causing carpal tunnel like symptoms. since then, i've used an everglide giganta for years.

It's most likely the positioning of your arm and wrist that's causing the problem.
Google up a good ergonomic site for keyboard/mouse use.

I got a gel mouse pad as a gift back in 2000. I got a puppy last month.
The puppy ate the mouse pad and I needed a new one. I went to staples and spent like 9 bucks and got a new um.. "Wave-Gel mouse pad" by Belkin or something like that. It seems to work just fine.

my mouse pad suggestion does not have a gel pad in it...
pretend to be an architect, and call up Forbo for an 18"x18" sample of Marmoleum. Pick a color from
http://www.themarmoleumstore.com/framew ... =873&ssm=1
and say that you need a sample because you're specifying it for a project, a large, educational product. hell, ask for two. but have your fake architect business name and your shipping info ready.
this could also be done through an email to
kbarno@fl-na.com but you didn't hear that from me!
sincerely,

Ok, trying to loot into all the things presented to me. My question to Fash and syenye is, what good is having a different material mouse pad going to do to help my developing carpal tunnel (lol). Do not take that wrong, i am not saying I don't believe you.. Just want all the info.
Thanks for all the suggestions.

It's funny because it will probably work when I try it tomorrow!

it won't, i just really like my everglide... it really is all about positioning. the gel pad thingie made my carpal tunnel worse. what you should really be doing is assessing your computer work area, and rethinking your setup like winnow suggested. get a new chair, new desk, put books under your feet, whatever you have to do.

Try an alternate pointing device like a tablet or trackball.
Other controllers like the
Nostromo n50 SpeedPad may also help.
As for a mouse and mousing surface, I use a
Logitech MX 518 and a
Ratpadz.

You'd be surprised how much a smooth mouse and high quality mousepad help things if you work fast.
A nice accurate mouse and pad enable you to speed up your cursor so you barely need to move your arm/wrist. When someone else uses my computer, they freak out because the cursor flies all over the screen.
Ergonomically speaking, the less you need to move, the better. Sometimes when I use someone else's mouse it feels like I'm dragging it through mud.

My Ratpadz is awesome, I can literally move my mouse around by giving it a threatening glance.
