So this payday Im thinking of picking up the Fusion HDTV5 this payday... I want a HDTV source in my bedroom for my 20" widescreen. Im also thinking of picking up a Hauppage PVR250 as a second source, my cable company doesnt scramble any of the local QAM stuff here, so I know ill get good HDTV reception on it, but anyone ever built one before? got any tips?

I'm in the middle of building a dedicated PVR system. It really isn't that hard...but I will admit that I have no experience in the HDTV part of PVR. I would imagine that as long as the media center software you have supports HDTV recording, you should be fine.

I have used MythTV with a Linux setup...that was tough, and a lot of work. I am now experimenting with GB-PVR on a Windows 2000 install. That one is loads easier to set up than the Linux one.

here are some links:

These are of course the free way. You can always pay for a program too...but its a hobby to me, so I don't want to invest time and money...just time...

Oh, and they don't sell PVR-250's anymore. You would have to buy one on ebay for way too much money. I would say just buy a PVR-150 like I did, when they go on sale, for about $80 after rebate.

I can't help on this one. No experience with PVR. I looked into it briefly but have avoided them because you can't use them with satellite reception due to DirecTV's paranoia about their cards being hacked.
