Florida getting too much wind, California not enough...
Weather appears to be a factor. Winds from the northwest usually trigger an upwelling of cold, nutrient-rich waters off the coast, scientists said.

This year, the lack of inland heat has prevented those winds from developing. No wind means no food.

One marine scientist said he thinks the plankton collapse caused a small bird called the Cassin's auklet to steer clear of its usual nesting spots on the Farallones Islands this year.

Some 30,000 to 40,000 auklets usually nest at the Farallones each spring, but almost none did this year, said Bill Sydeman, marine ecology director of the Point Reyes Bird Observatory.

"We've never seen anything like this," Sydeman said. "If the auklets are struggling, the other species that depend on plankton, like whales, young salmon and rockfish, could be facing a very bad year."

Mother bitch I'm going to an all-inclusive just south of Cancun for a week starting the 18th! I guess I'll take a long some DVD's to watch from the comfort of my hotel room. :(

Maybe I'll get lucky and Emily will haul ass through the place and I'll be on the beach sipping margaritas with no salt...NO SALT.

Bah salt is good, m'kay...Still looks like steering currents will break this one north maybe especially if Jamaica weakens it significantly...I'm thinking TX/LA...

Ok ignore that...just looked at the current steering currents...Can you get your money back? I'm not sure you'll be able to get there on Monday... :?

Don't know yet. I'm holding on to the hope that Emily will haul ass and blow through Sunday and I'll still be able to get in. I should probably make some calls, just in case. I booked the thing through Expedia, if that makes a difference.
