Ok, I just downloaded war of the worlds, and I am having a problem that I have had on a few other movies. It won't fit on one disc, and I dont know how to split it up, just looking for advice that hopefully doesnt involve buying any software or lessening the quality of the file , thanks ahead of time.

DVD

The file is something like 5.5 gigs or something and only 4.7 or whatever fit on the dvd.
And I know.. I download them cause I don't want to wait for dvd, and I end up buying half them when they come out anyhow.

Watch it and delete it. If it's a good movie then buy the DVD when/if it's out.

I have to believe there is a way to do it.. I wouldnt think all the movies that I have downloaded in two parts were filmed in two parts and uploaded that way.. so there has to be a way dang it..

Try typing "movie splitter" in google and click on the first thing that comes up.
Google is your friend in almost all cases.

Mount the .iso w/ daemontools and shrink it to 4.7gb w/ dvdshrink.
Most people won't notice the difference in quality and it's better than farking about w/ 2 discs...

A microsoft power-tool for mounting iso's easily without daemontools, for using the
dvdshrink method from zaelath.

Only problem is, I just tried using both those programs and the video file does not even come up as supported and won't work with either of those two programs.

thats makes it highly likely that your dvd player would not read it either.

Well, it is an .avi file like all the others I have burned.
The weird thing is with that method that was suggested, the version of war of the worlds I downloaded that is just two folders that say cd1 and cd2 - and does not play reguardless of what I have tried, registers with those two programs.. who knows.

so what's the file extension?

oh.. you just want to split up an AVI file?.. use VirtualDub 1.3c (google for this specific version). pick start and end points, and save them out as new avis.

cool, thanks. Out of curiousity, what would i use that other method you guys were telling me about for ?

Damnit.. Its not a avi, its .xvid
well, i thought it was avi.. damn filename is .xvid.net.avi.. lol, but when i tried to use that program fash, it said xvid

xvid is a codec used to encode movie data. i think it is still a .avi file, and 1.3c is needed because future versions do not support xvid.

The error code I get says
"couldn't locate decompressor for format xvid (unknown)"
I double checked to make sure I got the right version and everything.

Are you able to play it? Sounds like you don't have the codec installed.

I agree. Download a different one. There is a good quality one that's only 1.5Gb (2 files, 750Mb each). I'd say don't even bother. It wasn't that good of a movie to go through all that. 5.5Gb? wtf!

Yeah, I will probably just re-download it. Where is the file you are talking about aslanna? Thanks for all the help guys.

One of the usenet movie groups. Don't remember but the file names are wotw.tc.xvid.cd1.avi and wotw.tc.xvid.cd2.avi if you're looking elsewhere.
