For those of you that remember my situation a few years ago. EQ wrecked my 1st attempt at an engineering degree.
Well I quit EQ mid Luclin and finally got my degree in May.
Gee it only took 9 years! Thanks EQ
I'll be in Lafayette for couple years for job training followed by a reassignment to Houston.
Any of you guys living around Lafayette LA?

Congrats, Adex - better late than never! Good luck with the career path!
I was on the "15 year plan" myself, so I can relate. It was booze and women that screwed up my first try and I'm not sure if I'd do things much differently if I had it to do over again. Life is too short to spend it on regrets!
Ironically I was playing EQ quite a lot when I got my degree with a 3.98 GPA while balancing a product manager job and a fiance/wife.
I just got better at multitasking!

Nice job Adex.
If it wasn't EQ, it might have been something else that delayed your degree. I recall you once saying you ate some potpourri thinking they were some sort of after dinner mints. That may have messed up your head for a few years!

Congrats, Adex! Life can be sidetracked for any number of reasons, but it is the determination to be happy with oneself that sometimes wins the day.

Congrats Adex! Welcome to Aggie Former Student status.
I must say, I felt damn old going back on campus a couple months ago to check out the Bonfire Memorial. It was truly spectacular. One thing about that town....it never ages.

I'm about 3 hours north of Lafayette though I do make it down on occasion to New Iberia to visit my cousin and his family...
Places you must eat...Judice Inn on Johnson St (across from the Super Center)...Chris' Po Boys (several locations), Moss St Grocery has
Boudin....And drive over to Breaux Bridge and hit the original Mulate's once...especially if you Two Step
...

It took me 8 years to get a degree (BSEE), but I spent the first 4 of those years in art school: for some reason all those studio credits wouldn't count as engineering credits - go figure!

I get to design the electrical side of offshore oil platforms.
You should see the mounds of safety regulations that you have to follow to design things that handle gas. Polution protections, human protections etc. Everything these guys build with is top grade stainless steel overbuilt to withstand crazy weather and explosions.
If the offshore oil platform industry built toasters to handle two slices of bread, it would:
- weigh a ton
- be able to endure a 160 mph winds
- have triple power backups
- have under cook detection and compensation
- have over cook detection and compensation
- would scrub any smoking bread clean of any polution
- would remotely notify you of any deviation from a perfect even toast.
- would cost $40,000
- and would automatically report you power usage to the government for exact taxation

Congratulations Adex, other than living in LA it sounds great.
The one skill that I took from EQ that benefited me the most in school was the ability to endure mind numbing boredom.

Hehe,
I had my reservations about Lousiana.
However the people in this town are absolutely friendly. These guys bend over backwards for you. I went to open a bank account and ended up having 4 workers, and the bank manager in the office giving me move in advice and tips on where to buy a bed, and who has the best high speed internet service etc.
Everyone here might be very busy, but they'll stop on a dime to talk to you and not be in a hurry to get rid of you.
Oh yea, the food is awesome here.
I love Texas, but the people here in Lafayette are more friendly than anywhere I recall.

You're the friendly clean living type. You'll fit in nicely in Lousiana. Grab the next Scarlet, Georgia, Pearl, Lilly Beth, Dixie, Lilly, Belle, Dolly, Patsy, Sissy, Darla, or Betsy that meanders by and start up a family!
Seriously though, the south has some friendly people. Just don't let Voronwe get you into any Porkys type situations if you head over to Georgia someday for a visit!
