i'm having trouble downloading a .rar file from my FTP. how do you do it on a mac? i have a rar-unpacking program, but whenever i click on the file to download it all this jibberish type comes up in internet explorer. is there a "save as" function per se?

First, I would download it on a PC, then email it to myself on the mac.... that could work....

are ya sure you're using FTP? If you're using ftp through IE, you would need to right click (ctrl-click) on the file and pick save as.

Get Fetch for mac, real ftp software, and it will work... if you want to get it from your web hosting via HTTP, the server needs to be configured to treat .rar as a binary file...

on my apache server i put this into the config file:

AddType application/x-rar-compressed .rar

Take mac to window, dump out window, go to PC, enjoy life.

That's not usually a mac v's PC problem, it's usually a jackass that has set the mime-type incorrectly on the server..
