Best High School Movie

I know I missed some good ones but of the movies listed, which is your favorite movie that revolves around a high school setting. I tried to avoid the ones like Scream, I know what you did last summer etc that are spoof horror type movies. No, this doesn't belong in the video forum!

Bueller, but Dazed and Confused close behind.

Porky's? Where the hell is Porky's!?

Better Off Dead? Hello?

Ferris Bueller is the most over-rated movie of the last 50 years.

On your list, I voted for Fast Times.

Though I would vote for Porkys if it was up there.

those not voting Ferris Bueller's Day Off should be fucking ashamed of yourselves.

going for the underdog since everyone and their brother will vote for Ferris. When I think of classic scenes from that era, I constantly picture Spikoli<sp> having pizza delivered to class and calling his teacher a dick..classic stuff that has been with me for years.

Personally I never thought FBDO was that great of a movie... maybe it's guy that's in it, met him a few times growing up at the gym (he was shooting a movie on location) and he was a dick... who knows.

I came REAL close to voting for Heathers... love that movie "fuck me gently with a chainsaw Heather!" classically screwd up. I also love Dazed and Confused... with MM says "Thing about High School girls is that I keep getting older but I stay the same age..." and he makes that hand gesture... spewed soda out of my nose when I first saw that. I also really like Better Off Dead (not sure if it was on the list or not though)... however I truly can't stand most of those 80s hype movies with the "brat pack"...

Thus the truly all time great HS movie is Fast Times at Ridgemont High, I mean it kind of started the genera anyway. The whole "dosen't anyone knock anymore" masturbation scene, Spacoli's Van, Mr. HAND!, Led Zepplin 4, "No Shirt, No Shoes, NO DICE!"... love it!

Porky's. Although it's shameful American Pie was not mentioned either.

American Pie (the first of course) is missing.

And where was Animal House?

With those two lacking, i had to vote for Ferris :)

Animal House was a college movie.

Thank you for putting 3 O'clock high in there .. that would finish 2nd to Risky Business and ahead of Some Kind of Wonderful with Bueller finishing 4th.

Buddy Revelle is the all-time bad ass and later got to monkey grunge Sheryln Fenn in Two Moons Junction in some of the hottest sex the R rating board has ever allowed.

best quote from SKOW .. not gonna touch him, just gonna stare at him, make him cry a little bit.

This party is about to become a historical fact.

Damn, American Pie should have been on there. Porky's slipped my mind as I didn't picture it in a high school setting but the shower room scene qualifies it.

I think Fast Times is the all time classic High School movie in the 80's era. A more specific rating would break down the options by decade..80's, 90's and 00's. Tough choices.

Edit: I voted for Some Kind of Wonderful Seebs and Three O'Clock High I knew wouldn't beat out other movies but had to put it on there due to its greatness.

I had to vote Heathers for the Winona Ryder/Shannen Doherty combo meal.

At the time of first viewing, my vote definitely would have gone to Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

Now that I'm older though, just with the list above I'd have to go with:
1. Dazed and Confused
2. The Breakfast Club
3. Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Personally, I don't really think we need movies like American Pie or Van Wilder on this list cause the list is kinda old school which is nice.

Van Wilder is a college flick.

From your list, Fast Times, but I would write in a vote for Better off Dead.

Also, wtf is '10 Things I hate About You'? I must be getting old or I missed something.

10 Things I Hate About You is a pretty good High School movie set in the Washington area. Any movie on the list above you haven't seen, you should!

Yeah, but if we let in 10 things I hate about you, we also have to let in shit like Can't Hardly Wait, and it will never end.

Masteen, good point about Van Wilder. ><

I would argue that Better off Dead and Girl Next Door belong on that list, the former being my favorite old style high school movie (neck and neck with breakfast club) and the latter being the best new high school movie.

I voted for Sixteen Candles. I used to watch that movie over and over and I think, to this day, I can still recite the dialogue. Was really close though as I also love Fast Times.

Another of my favorites that are not on the list are Valley Girl (fantastic soundtrack too!) and Just One of the Guys.

Haha, I remember Valley Girl. That was a good one. As far as 'Just one of the Guys', now, that was just creepy. :P

Valley Girl

Started Nicholas copolla's stalking career.

Interestingly, the chick in that was the slut in Real Genius. More gums than teeth.

10 Things came out in 1999...just before the 2000 cut off....Napoleon was an exception.

Velley Girl is another one of the movies that takes place outside of the high school setting for the most part...I suppose I was trying to focus on High School movies that have a substantial part of then take place in the High School.

Valley Girl is a great one though.

Also Dead Poets Society is high school based isn't it? or was it college

great movie nonetheless

Fast Times got my vote.

Three that should be on the list, though:

Last American Virgin

Better off Dead (TWO DOLLARS!!!!)

Pump up the Volume

None of these would get my vote for best, but they deserve to be up there as much as some of those others hehe.

I could not remember the neam of Cusack's better off dead, should have googled.

Pump up the Volume .. eh .. Christian Slater's a woman beating tool .. we'll leave him off.

Was Just One of the Guys the one that had the topless chick holding the football helmets over her tits? Ahh.. the good memories of being a kid in a video store. Cheech and Chong were like forbidden fruit!

I was waiting for a Euro to try and add "Gregory's Girl" to the list or something but it didn't happen. No good Euro High School Movies?

I thought that honor went to Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Can someone do the footwork on that and see who is right? I've gotta run!

From the almighty imdb.com:
Red Dawn was the first motion picture released with the PG-13 rating, which had been created after difficulty rating some movies in 1984, most notably Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984). (The Flamingo Kid (1984) was the first film to be *given* a PG-13 rating, but sat on the shelves for five months before being released.)

The second movie to ever get PG-13 was The Woman in Red with Kelly LeBrock. I am fairly certain it was the first movie to not have an R rating and show fur.

Fast Times is funny and all, but it still has that 80s taint to it.

that's what makes Dazed and Confused the best, the silliness of 80s movies has been removed.

Plus half the cool factor of Fast Times was that Spicoli was a pothead. In Dazed and Confused the potheads are much more prevalent, and much more realistic. More potheads, more better.
