Billy Corgan took out a full page ad in the Chicago papers today saying that he is hoping to reform the Pumpkins. Personally, they were among my favorite bands as a teen and I hope they can reform and return to their previous level of excellence.

i hope they dont.

everything since their second album has been totally overblown. that 2 disc shitfest could have been condensed to one pretty decent album. There are some good songs on it, but its work slogging through the garbage to get to them.

'Gish' though is definitely one of the best "alternative" albums of the early 90s, if not the best.

Aside from one or two songs (1979 being one), I really disliked the Smashing Pumpkins. I found them to be too contrived, whiney and over hyped. I always figured Billy Corgan was the main reason for their suckage.

Surprisingly, when I heard Zwan, I instantly loved it. Mary Star of the Sea was a super album.

I totally agree with Miir. I bought a couple of their albums, but I really could never get into the majority of their music. Corgan's voice alone made it difficult to 'enjoy' the music.

I only like two songs but I like them a lot

Bullet With Butterfly Wings and 1979.

I don't care if they get back together or not. I know the lead singer got booed singing Take Me Out to the Ball Game at Rigley Stadium last year.

Disarm, Tonight tonight (or whatever its called), Today, 1979, Bullets with Butterfly wings, Perfect etcetc

Could be cool if they reform, James Iha has been ruining Maynard in APC for too long (i.e that piece of shit anti war album APC released which has like one good song on it).

I like the pumpkins a lot but they arent in the same class as nirvana, pearl jam and alice in chains as far as the 90's go.

I used to hate the pumpkins solely because of Corgan. I couldn't stand his voice. To me, listening to it was like fingernails down a chalkboard. Then, one day, my like for the song 1979 compelled me to buy melon collie. I've been a pumpkins fan ever since. Twilight to Starlight has some of my favorite songs on it: to name the highlights, Thirty-three, 1979, Beautiful, By Starlight. On each album following Melon, however, I find myself skipping through most of the work to the select two or three songs that stand out to me: Perfect, For Martha, Ava Adore, To Sheila, Stand Inside Your Love, Sacred and Profane. Siamese Dream is really the only Pumpkins album that I can listen to straight through. I'm not sure how I got over my hatred for Corgan's voice, but somewhere along the line I did. I almost like it now. Bring on a Pumpkins reunion I say, but please Corgan and co., look back to Siamese Dream for inspiration..

Weird thing I learned recently; my friend used to live in Atlanta, also where Billy's family is from. His little brother was apparently friends with younger relative of Billy's and he was at their house while Corgan was visiting. So he ended up playing mortal combat with Billy Corgan for an hour or so...

Rumours of a Smashing Pumpkins rekindling have been rife these past few weeks, after frontman Billy Corgan made public how much he missed his old band.
However, confirmation that the band will reform has come from Pumpkins drummer Jimmy Chamberlin whilst on tour promoting his new outfit, The Jimmy Chamberlin Complex. Chamberlin stopped off at the Archer in Newcastle to host a drum clinic, and somewhere between offering existential music guidance and performing a solo version of Geek U.S.A. (only drums, no accompanyment), he announced that the Chicago veterans would be getting back together and aiming to tour in February 2006.

Chamberlin went on to state that the Smashing Pumpkins would not be doing "a greatest hits tour [...] we're not after your money" and that the band would work on new songs to take on the road, with the possibility of an album to ensue.

In polite discussion with his fans after the clinic, Chamberlin said that contact had been made with the two estranged former-Pumpkins James Iha and D'arcy Wretsky via e-mail, but that Corgan and himself were awaiting confirmation as to their participation. He also said that the tour would probably go ahead regardless of whether Iha and D'arcy are involved.

If James and D'arcy aren't doing it with them they should just play with Zwan and do SP songs.. not like there'd be any difference.

Voronwe's post pretty much sums up how I feel about Smashing Pumpkins.

I love Gish and Siamese Dreams, and own both of the albums, as well as the singles album Pisces Iscariot.

So as soon as Mellon Colley was released I rushed out and bought it. I was very disapointed in it. Yes there were some very good songs on the album including 1979 and others. But it could have easily been a one disc set. The Pumpkins just really wanted to do a 2 disc for some reason so produced a bunch of shitty songs as filler.

My only wish is that they had put all the good songs on the first CD in the set so I could just throw the second one away.
