Window's Media Player..

I have a wierd problem with my WMP, I just reformatted last week and since than about half the video's I try to play in WMP stop after about 5-10 seconds. The bar keeps scrolling and the sound is still there but the video just freezes. This generally seems to happen with AVI files.
I assume it is a codec issue, but I already downloaded a codec pack so I guess it could be something else, has anyone else had this happen and found a solution?
