Whee, fun day today. First day at work after a 3 week vacation, managed to read 600 emails, miss 1 meeting, fix 2 critical problems, all before lunch.
And then this gem come in. We support 4 external psyciatric centers near the hospital i work at, and their internet connection been down since 10 AM. Normally its the line (they got wierd radio line, not sure how it work, and usually it dont), but the guys that we buy the line service from say its all working.
So i gotta take a taxa out there, get keys from the secretaries, and go to work on the problem in a little room under the stairs, with around 1.5 meter to the ceiling.
And first of all, there have been 2 morons out from some burglar alarm company, and have set their system op in the same room.
And appearantly they arent very carefull, because they have managed to step on enough cables get our switch to drop internet access.
So i fix the cables, reboot the switch, and turn to the server to see if I got connection now.
So i turn on the screen, and it looks wierd to me, normally we got a Novell server down there, and now theres a Win98 machine. Oh well, i been gone 3 weeks, and knew we had planned to kill the Novell server there, so it might be dead and a Win98 server been put up instead for some obscure reason, wierder things have happened.
And nope, no access, so gotta unpack my laptop, and try to connect that. Whee, i got network access. So gotta look some more at our server.
And what do i find? The IDIOTS who have been putting up that burglar alarm hardware appearantly needed a keyboard and a screen to configure their little ugly box, so what did they do? The took the monitor and keyboard from our running server, and hooked up to their hardware.
Im pretty sure that killing those guys would have earned me a medal, not a prison term. Just pulling cables out of server you go no clue what do shoud be punishable by law.
Note to self, shoot Burglar Alarm installers on sight

Blah, was supposed to be in General discussion, not EQ General
. Feel free to move it.
And no, only really old server we run are an old NT4 with Service Release 4 on it, and think the only updates it gotten since are the ones that closed the holes for Sasser (and that other virus that pulled the same stunt as sasser, cant remember name).
Gotta love software suppliers with monopoly that can seriously stand up and say you cant install a critical service pack. Only managed to get the Sasser fix on it because i after SIX persons had the danish director of AGFA on the phone and told him that either i installed the fix so it wouldnt get infected, or i pulled out the network cable.
