In the land of gladiator worship, Jim Everett is a veteran football quarterback in the NFL. He's been at it for awhile, and he now plays for the San Diego Chargers. Jim Rome is a sports commentator with attitude. At some point, when Everett was still playing for the New Orleans Saints (talk about a misnomer), Rome took to consistently referring to him as "Chris" Everett - a wordplay on Chris Evert, the female tennis star, and no doubt intended to impugn the jock's manhood, his playing ability, penis size, whatever. Everett let it get under his, uh, skin in any case.
One night in 1994 Jim Everett appeared on Jim Rome's ESPN2 talk show. Rome called him Chris, several times. Chris... I mean, Jim... took exception, and in a now-infamous clip (which Rome consistently denies was staged) Everett reacted, live on camera.

Rome probably pushed it a bit too far by calling him Chris to his face unless Everett challenged him right off the bat in which case you need to save face and call him Chris again or lose your clones : )

My fucking local sportstalk station decided to pre-empt Rome's show with a Braves daytime game yesterday.
Fucking assholes god I was pissed. I really loathe the local station sometimes. They have the good sense to broadcast Jim Rome but then from 3-6 every weekday I get this shitty ass local broadcast, 'The Sports Breakdown,' where some guy from god damned Knoxville talks about Alabama sports. It wouldn't be so bad if he wasn't so god damned annoying and all their news and opinions weren't regurgitated dung from the larger media outlets.
Like I said, they piss me off occasionally!
