A new game...?

Okay, me and Fash have been cooking up a new game idea. However he hasn't been around so I think I'm going to release the idea upon the general populace and see what you guys think..

Originally he had the idea that you have like a small map with some places you can go. They involve a risk and reward chace. Something bad or good happens depending on some chance. Whoever is left at the end is the winner.

(Do I have that right?)

Anyways I modified it a bit and I think I may have come up with a more interesting idea. Maybe with slightly more strategy.

You have the same map, but there are paths between the places you can't just go from any place to any other place. You can choose where to go each day. Everyone has 3 hp and 3 traps. Now, when you get to a place, you can leave a trap for someone. When they get there there is a chance it will go off.

So one person's day might go like this:

Go to point D (Harvey's video store?). If a trap is set off they take -1 hp.

They can also search the area for something good. There are traps/healthpacks scattered around the map. If a trap was there but it wasn't sprung, there is a chance it will go off if you search again. If there is something good, you get it.

They can then or before set a trap for someone else who might come by that way.

---

Well, what do you guys think, could this be a fun game to play? :D

Could be fun.

Certainly something to do while at work.

As opposed to actually working/being productive/earning an honest day's wage for an honest day's work???

Crud...have to get back to work...the boss is nearby...

A good game has something to it that creates tension and interaction between the players. You need to be able to backstab people or make deals with other players to make it interesting!

I picture teamwork being important here as well. :) If you and your bud want to kill person X, a good thing to do would be to place traps in places they are likely to go. It would be possible to block all possible exits...so there's an element of stragerery involved too..

A couple other things I'm mulling about...every time someone dies, everyone gets another trap...good? (To balance it out with healthpacks)

If someone does not move in a day they lose 1 hp. No squatting...is that good?

The map should clearly be based on the London Underground.

I've been offline for a bit with the blizzard yesterday plus my cellphone dieing before i even got to the hotel. But I digress....

A clip from what I originally sent Lohrno, which was a draft Signups post for VV that I asked his opinion on:
Fash wrote: I'd like to run a forum game, something different, something that fits everyones schedules, and something that gives everyone a little attention each day.... so I'm making one up.

Each player starts as a tourist on the island of Via with $300 and a backpack. Each day, players will pick 1 location to go to, from the list provided. There are one or more items randomly located in each place every day. An item could also mean you die, or are protected from it, for a time. Players who choose the same location may have a separate encounter, at my discretion.
My intention was to make a game that involved only 1 pm to the gm per day, and to tune in for the nightly post and see what happened, for each player would have something written about them every night.

his opinion was right: "no strategy... at all..." but the idea was to do something different..

The schedule issue is big... as I can't schedule myself around vv.. I also wanted to limit the game to 10 players.

Lohrno has good ideas too with the Traps, but he's also capable of running an entire game by himself... I don't quite see the need to merge the two and co-gm it when the ideas aren't mutually exclusive and we can each run our own games.

do we need another poll?

Sure if you'd like to start one...Start one with your explanations of everything, and if it becomes more popular I can just help out with descriptions and such if you like. :)

there you go again... it's not a popularity contest... this is not eq2 vs wow..

many people stay active in lots of threads every day, i don't see why they couldnt participate in two games....

I'm not trying to make it a contest or competition honestly. But we should decide on one version I think. I'm willing to bow out if you like...or put it on hold...I'll help with whatever. :)

PS: I invite all criticism... I would love to hear explanations of the way you voted. :)

I'd like to do another Survivor game... Last time around the alliances really made it fun.

I'm going to respectfully leave that kind of survivor in the domain of Winnow. :D

Well, 9 people might play, so that's not terrible... I'll still think of another game though. :)

If Fash doesn't start his version by monday I'll give this a go. (I don't want to steal his thunder, and I think only one game should be played at a time.)
