Question: Does anyone know of an equivalent of BBEDIT ( a mac only program for html editing) for a windows system? I have Homesite but I am not as impress with it as I am with BBEDIT. I use a Mac at school but have a PC at home. No, I can't afford to buy a Mac.

i dont know BBEDIT, but any text editor can do html.
from vi to Microsoft Word.
or are you looking for a feature rich thing like FrontPage?

*shudder* no no nothing microsoftish. Not that I have anything against MS, but they put in so much extra shit exclusive to their stuff that it really gets annoying to work with. No BBEDIT is really an incredible program for html, css, and much more. I know I can do html in just about any text editor but this program has a lot of features that make life so much easier.

Bubba, I've had some students tell me about UltraEdit...I've never used it but here's the link:
http://www.ultraedit.com/
Mostly I just end up working in Dreamweaver on both platforms...DW on the Mac ties in rather nicely with BBEdit.

While you're at it, does anyone know if there's an equivalent for Escape Velocity: Override on the PC? Five years after giving up my Mac, it's still haunting me!

I really liked editplus when I was doing a lot of HTML coding a while back.

I would also recommend Dreamweaver MX if you can afford it, or can get it from someone. It's much like Homesite, but better. Of course, if you don't dig Homesite, then you'd probably hate DWMX. =) Textpad is THE editor for Windows though.. it's superb.

Not sure if this might be what you are looking for but do a search for Code Genie.
I've used it for about everything related to coding.

People use something other than notepad and edit to work html? shudder.

I use DWMX mainly for the color coding, which notepad doesn't do. It's quite handy.

well since both Linux and Apple OSX are derived from BSD, i'm not sure why you are trashing Apple
I think new macs are sweet as hell. the displays are awesome. however, they are too pricey for what you get in my opinion. i would like to see darwin have a little bit easier to access file system and readily available command line, but it is all there if you look far enough under the hood.

Well I downloaded UltraEdit and it wasn't really what I was looking for. I tried getting Textpad off of Gnucleus but someone decided that if they made a textpad.zip naturally you are looking for hot german sex. I may download the trial version later to see what it is like.
I was actually contemplating getting an iMac. OSX looks like it is really nice and stable and has a great capacity for compatibility.

OS 10.2 is pretty badass. I hooked it up to my home PC network and bam, instant file sharing, no configuration necessary. Its the first time I've been really impressed with Apple. Frankly it made them usable to me in a PC dominated field.

Don't trash OS-X if you haven't played with it. You have all the scripting and command line of true UNIX with an easy to use Mac OS Windows manager and if you have a duel proc system it runs virt PC about the same as a P3 native. It's the best of all worlds except for the price
Now if Jobs will just allow them to port that shit to x86 I think he could finally change the world like he has been trying to do for 25 years.
Marb
PS- Linux isn't derrived from BSD. Linus wrote the kernal himself and then used GNU apps to make it a full OS. My understanding was this his initial models were derrived from... shudder... XENIX.

hey marb =)
i am told there is a port of OSX called Darwin (i think) that runs on x86.
you are right Linux is not derived from BSD, i should not have been so casual with my speech. What i meant to say is that it has many things in common with the BSD lineage UNIX's. but yes designed sort of from the ground up.
