Forgot my local newspaper too, but generally speaking - outside of local stories, it's all AP stuff that CNN posts verbatum.

I get it from three main sources:
CNN, NPR, and The Daily Show.
Sometimes I read things on Bushflash.com and/or Fox News just to see what the political extremes are up to.
Keith Oberman's blog and show on MSNBC are both pretty good sources of relatively unbiased punditry as well.
edit- forgot to mention my favorite cynical site FuckedCompany.com

I try to get my news from a variety of places. I like to be able to see them at more than one just to get differing perspectives. I also try to look for small town papers to see what the views are in those places.
Another I noticed that nobody else had on their list which I check is

Google News is a great way to check the news and also search for recent articles on topics you're interested in. 10/10
[H]ardForum is your one stop shop for all things computer. It's a forum, not a news site but still the first place you should go when researching new computer parts or problems with current ones.
AV Science Forum is a must have link like [H]ardForums is for computers but this deals with all things related to video electronics including HTPC (Home Theater PCs).
Those are three great links to have handy. The rest of my news links are more specialized.
