Well, I went up to Blockbuster to see if they had the first season of 24 on DVD for sale. Big mistake.

They didn't have it... however they did have the new Lord of the Rings extended version, which of course I purchased. I also nearly walked out with the Band of Brothers set and Episode 2 of Star Wars. Luckily for me, I'm short on cash and had to choose one of the three.

Anyway, if you were thinking of getting the new LoTR set that is out, it's very nicely done. The menus are all animated like a book, scene selection is animated, all the bells and whistles. They also did a DTS track for the audio which makes me happy. ^_^ If you dig the film and have been waiting to get it until this came out, you should be very pleased.

Out of curiosity, what did you pay. A friend and I ordered ours from Amazon.com like a week ago, and I think we paid $24 or something. Can't wait to get it.

You sure you got the special edition one for that much? This was $60. It had bookends and shit that I really didn't want, but oh well... I don't think they were releasing just the special edition of the film alone but maybe they are... that might be what you got.

Edit: You can get JUSt the movie on Amazon (extended) for $25... damnit, I've been had! =) Oh well, I got the neato bajito bookends for my dvd collection.

Yeah, I'm off to buy Star Wars: Episode II after work. Thanks for the reminder.

Are the bookends worth the extra cost? I have been toying with the idea of spending the money to get that set instead of just the dvds.

There worth it in my opinion. Not only are they cool looking, but I plan on using them to display the finer editions in my growing collection of Tolkien's works.

Yeah, they're worth it I guess. It's just not something I personally needed. They're very well made though, not cheap looking or anything at all.

Xouqoa, I purchased Band of Brothers over the weekend. I had Veteran's Day off (thank you Air Force) and wanted to watch as much as I could of it during my mini-vacation.

I've made it through about half of the episodes, and the 6th disc contains more extra stuff (making off, journals, etc.) The special DVD features are pretty nice too, each episode contains a summary, historical map showing where that episode is set, short bio of key soldiers for that episode, and a glossary of terms that pertain to that episode. In addition, they have a military ranks chart and a historical timeline around 25 pages long. And of course the usual language and sound options.

I don't have HBO, so I didn't get the benefit of watching this earlier on. Did each episode start out with the actual guys from Easy Company recounting the events shown? Because the DVD does, and some of those segments are as moving as the actual show itself.

Went out and bought the boxed gift set last night. It was $50 but I thought that I may as well get it for no other reason than to spend money on shit I don't need (the bookends). They seem very well crafted. I suppose if I ever went back to the pnp games I could use those as props.

Sucks that I can't watch it until Saturday though. Just no time between work, class, and lamaz. (week 3 of 6 in pillow class)

Band of Brothers is pure own.

Never mind the fact that it's an outstanding production. I don't think I've ever watched anything so powerful and moving.

yep. i was totally glued to Band of Brothers, it was absolutely awesome.

HBO is my favorite channel by far. Their original programming is so much better than network television.

I went straight to Target after work and bought SW: II for 14.99. I walked in behind about 3-4 other guys who all walked right to the same display, picked up our DVD, and headed to the same register. It was actually kinda funny because the exact same scenerio happened when LoTR first came out. So, I buy a new DVD, rush home for a little EQ, then cuddle on the couch with my GF and watch.... Lock, Stock, and 2 Smoking Barrels. I've had that DVD for a month and we finally decided to watch it. Good flick.
