Where and how do I get my hands on audio codecs for RealPlayer? I downloaded some Family Guy episodes that play the video portion correctly, but have unsupported audio codecs. It would be nice if I could simply download new codecs instead of trying to find and download the entire episodes again.

Can anyone help me out here?

P.S. - the clips also play without sound on Windows Media Player and DivX player.

What are the file extentions? If they are .rm extensions then they will only play in real player and should be able to play the sound. If they don't play the sound then they are busted because Real.com fucking sues anyone that even has a dream about using their codec on a different player.

If they are .avi or .mpeg then you don't have to play them on real player (and uninstall that spamware piece of shit and boycott real.com), and can probably get away with installing the nimo codec pack.

They're .avi files which have the RealPlayer logo as their default player. However, they play on every format BUT RealPlayer (which says I need the codec). On every other media player, they play with no sound.

I'm assuming they're .avi's made with a foreign version of RealPlayer -- in which case, I'll be extremely disappointed if they end up being in Japanese or some such language. My connection took forever to download them, and I want to be able to enjoy them.

No absolutely don't need realplayer to watch an AVI file. AVI is usually a fairly generic video codec.

Real players should only be used to play .rm files.

Download that nimo codec pack and play them in windows media player. It should work.

Avi's could be using the DivX codec.

When you install RP, it commonly makes itself the deault media player. Bring up your media player of choice, and make sure it is the default/standard player. I use the latest windows media player.

Searyx is really the person you might want to ask about that.

If it's an .avi, make sure you have xvid and ac3 codec too, also the newest divx codec.

Downloading the nimo codecs to see if they work.

This may sound like a dumb question, but I'll ask it anyway. WHY HASN'T SOMEONE MADE A UNIVERSAL MEDIA PLAYER YET? I mean one that not only plays all types of audio and video files, but that also has every codec built into it.

There's this new "RealOne" thing from Real Media, but I hate those people. And I'll be damned if I'm going to pay $20 a month to use their crappy product (which probably works as shittily as all their previous ones).
