I usually fly Southwest, it's cheap and I like the open seating.

It really depends on where you are going and where you ar leaving from. If one of the major airlines has a major hub at either location chances are they will be cheaper.

Just got back from going coast-to-coast on Frontier Airlines. I usually check airline prices on Travelocity or Expedia, then I check to see what the price is through the carrier. I live in Denver, so we're the hub for Frontier. On my flights from Denver to DC and Denver to San Fran, both were 30+ minutes early.

If you are traveling coast to coast with less than 21 days notice (especially less than 7), Frontier usually has the best price.

Only problem is that every flight goes through Denver.
